Hacking 3DS gamecart hardmodding noob question

This isn't exactly a complex issue, I just wanna know if removing the actual chip from the card casing will damage it.

That isn't exactly hardmodding. you should be fine, but you will end up with two half broken carts.

you're most likely not going to be able to take the game apart and put them back together so no one would notice.
worst case, you damage something in the process, or the put together carts end up causing damage to the cart slot of the system.

whatever your prank is, you should probably not try it with anything that isn't 3$ garbage bin games

If you break both games there's not a big loss.
