Hardware 3ds game cards stick on removal

I have a 3ds that I had to get repaired - the game card wouldn't 'click in' to the slot. However, the new slot has a different problem - the game card (a proper official 3DS game) clicks in fine but when you remove it, it won't slide out again easily. If i turn it upside down it only falls out about a quarter of the way. I have to pull quite hard to get it out.

So I'm worried this could be the precursor of another break. Any idea what could be causing this? I've tried with more than one gamecard, same problem.

EDIT: From looking at the cards, I guess there must be some sort of thing that comes out to hook into the indentation in the card and hold it in place. This mustn't be retracting fully when the card is not in place, preventing it from coming out. I suppose every time I pull it I risk breaking this again Any ideas for a fix other than yet another slot?

This is a 7-year-old thread that didn't generate any conclusive responses, necrobumping it won't result in an answer. Chances are that your slot is slightly misshapen, it will "break in" with wear and tear. If it's a problem with the spring loaded mechanism, it might need some poking and prodding. In any case, I'll lock this to prevent further bumping.
