You are pretty sharp actually. But in reality, many singaporeans only own ds lites because the dsi sold by our local agent is heavily overpriced (export sets are also overpriced by many shops). I bought my dsi xl, a r4 clone and 4gb sd card at $400+ (us$320 approximate), a local set dsi would already cost $275 (us$215) which excludes 7% GST for locals.

The 3ds in Singapore should be $350 by local agent...

Nope, you pass through an unprotected or free wi-fi point, your 3ds is gonna automatically update. Thats how evil big N is......
Umm and the children in Clarke Quay looked like locals imo and yes they had ds lites.

@FireGrey, who's trolling?
Actually I'm kinda grateful that nintendo doesn't open any of their main companies here (nintendo singapore?)
Even though consoles here are highly priced as compared to the US (games here are even more expensive than in japan), our local agent doesn't really care about the users and consoles. Therefore when the 3ds hits singapore shores (likely 30 march), our agent will never sign those agreements with Singtel or starhub/m1 for free wi-fi access for spotpass.

If you are refering to me, it is true. A Japanese dsi xl sold by the official retailers here cost a hefty $399 with no warranty, while most exports from US cost about $260 - 280. DS games here cost about $70 - 80, while in japan it costs ¥4,800 ($74, about the same) but our games are imported from the US!

I really hope they don't have a hack out this early. If they do, then we aren't going to see that bright a future for Nintendo Handhelds.
If they do have a hack, I hope Nintendo can stop them.

I wouldn't worry about it. The vast, vast, majority of gamers - especially Nintendo's target market - doesn't have anything to do with the hacking scene. Nintendo will be printing money and laughing all the way to the bank with the 3DS no matter what, just like they are with the DS and Wii, two of the easiest systems on the market to hack. 99% of people who own a Wii probably don't even know what "homebrew" is.

I also don't see game developers shying away from the system for this reason, it'd be stupid to pass up on such a huge target market because a small percentage of them happen to hack. It's also not Nintendo's responsibility to make sure that games can't be hacked, game AP measures should be left up to the game devs and publishers themselves. But that's just my opinion.

I highly doubt the article is true, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 3DS is hacked within a few months or even weeks of its release though.

Nice description you have got there

But I bet the 3ds will take awhile to hack... Who knows what AP measures they'll implement?

Anyway, just a speculation... If a flashcart were to come out for the 3ds, will they be shaped like a ds cart or the 3ds ones (with the edge jutting out)?

since there is more hype, it will be faster but opening up the system doesnt mean nintendo can block out the superficial hacks with firmware updates... good and strong hacking methods (according to my little knowledge) will come atleast after 6 months

That's not really how it works.

Besides, you need to say yes to connecting to open networks in your settings.

The guy was smart enough to sneak it off the darn factory line, why couldn't he hack it as well?

You don't need to be smart to steal.

I disagree. Theft isn't a wise thing to do, but you need smarts to do it in this scenario. To be able to get the device out of the factory line, without disrupting any portion of the line, and without your coworkers noticing that there's a gap that started at your station or noticing you shoving a 3DS into your rectum back pocket.

It's one thing to sneak a physical device out of a factory. You don't necessarily have to be 'smart' to do this. Maybe 'street smart' is a more accurate term. The easiest ways would be bribery.

The skillset required to get the device out of a factory is much different than hacking the device. I might think that GeoHot would be able to crack it, but I certainly wouldn't think that sending him in to steal a device would work in any way shape or form. They're simply different skillsets

To be honest hacking is the least of Nintendo's worries. They should be panicking over the iPhone. I'm going to have a cellphone. Oh and now this cellphone has so many games, and I can buy them directly on the phone? So why am I carrying around this extra Nintendo brick that does nothing but play games?

Convergence is probably going to be Nintendo's worst enemy. Games on the Android and iPhone/iPad/Mac Store are really going to make people think about whether having a single device dedicated to games is really worth it. Why carry an extra device when you don't have to. Certainly anything you can create on the NDS/PSP is possible on a mobile phone these days (except with few exceptions). It's probably why the PSP2 is going to have an integrated phone. We'll have to see how Nintendo goes with it's next generation platform.

Yeah I have yet to see an iphone game that can compete with the multitude of games and first party that nintendo offers, sure theres a lot of shovelware but I'm hard pressed to think of even a dozen games on the iphone that can compete with the Nintendo DS, nevermind the control issue or lack of real controls.

Where did you hear the psp2 will have an integrated phone? Thats what the Playstation phone is for.

in short dedicated gaming in the near future will be better for gaming.

playing on my Iphone is just a pain, even that the screen is more responsive than the one from the DS, its still not half as good as feeling that u "press" on something(D-Pad etc.). Also, most games for the Iphone are just..mehhh....yeah they have really some good ones, but killing bird is the no. 1 so you see what for gamers are playing on an iphone.

That fact is why I'm excited for the Playstation Phone. A phone. With lots of games. That has a D-Pad and Face buttons.
