I read somewhere that heating was the main issue, because if you watch a repair guide on fixing RRoD it says how two things in the xbox melt together so they rub this stuff on it and it fixes. Anyways I'm sure it is heating, they may seem dumb but they're not that dumb...

The fans should ALWAYS be on (except when the console is turned off ofcourse).
If the fans aren't on, no clean/cool/whateveryouwanttocallit air is being drawn through the machine so the system will over heat VERY quickly and then proceed to die/explode/otherthings.

Nope, it's not. Or at least it shouldn't really be, as you can't realistically keep operating temperatures THAT low, to prevent the PCB flexing. Those components (GPU and CPU) usually are created to withstand temperatures of over 90°C while still retaining their operationality, so that's not the problem.

And the thing you're talking about's just a cheap way of repairing a 360 thanks to the fact that the PCB materials suck and flexes a lot with just a bit of heat, and that lets the BGA solder balls make contact again.

To melt BGA solder you need at least 260°C. With a better PCB (normal) heating wouldn't be a problem. We're talking that a 360 PCB already starts to flex with something like 50°C, and every FREAKING CPU/GPU out there usually heats up at least that much.
And you're not going to prevent that unless you're going with liquid cooling.

So it's either a better PCB, or it's just RROD all over again.

And actually, solder also gets broken on the underside of the RAMs, and those don't probably ever exceed 30°C.

EDIT: And by the way, things like heatsinks and fans won't still prevent heat on directly hitting the lower-side of the PCB.

This is pretty neat. Too bad they already implemented something similar in laptops and desktop PCs.

Yeah, if mine gets too hot it just shuts off without telling me. Without saving anything. REALLY helpful if I'm, say, typing a huge essay for college.

I'm glad this at least tells you it's shutting off for that reason, and you don't have important work on an Xbox 360. C'mon, being in the middle of a match in BC2 and MW2 is NOT important work.

Ontopic: not that bad of an idea but it could certainly be annoying if you are playing a match online and all of a sudden the thing turns off... They should add some sort of feature that warns you (maybe with a small pop-up screen) that the Xbox might become overheated and that it will shut down in a couple of minutes to prevent any damage, that way you can warn your friends that you won't be playing for a while.
