Hey guys I have a question.

I've installed HBC on my Wii and it's on 3.3E at the moment. I have only got Gecko OS on my SD card and it works in HBC. If I Update the Wii to 3.4, will Gecko OS still work on HBC? (I have gamecube imports

So, as long as I keep my Wii at 3.2U, I don't have to worry about Nintendo installing updates behind my back, right?

I have the same question? Can anyone confirm that on version 3.2 you wont get auto-updates?

I got 3.2E and I got the blinking blue this morning. So no it didn't update.
They require that you press "Update" to work.

Yes. PLEASE get this correct people. None of these updates are 'automatic'. Every single one has required you to manually initiate the update through either the Wii settings panel or the update message sent to you. This includes 3.4 as well. I repeat, the update is NOT automatic and will never install itself without your prior consent.

Nothing I'm doing with the system menu seems to be helping, but I'll keep at it.

In the meantime, I've uploaded an IOS50/Mii Channel patchmii http://www.softchip-mod.com.

I'll keep working.

Thank you!

Does this patch of yours also increase the SD speed? That's a nice gimmick, although it's not thaaat important...

They just updated their privacy clause which says they will now have the ability to auto-send updates (one would assume beginning with 3.4 since you have to agree to the statement), therefore, I'm a little unsure of the validity to your "includes 3.4" statement.

Wow, this really calls for a permanent patch in the system menu to block all (automated) updates from nintendo.
I hope BootMii or cSM will take care of that.
Untill then... Disable WiiConnect24 or even WiFi.
Blocking the nintendo server on your router will also be very effective. Does anyone know the correct url ? Might be very convenient to post it here.

Not yet. We would need to fix the system menu first.
Already on it.

Well, Ive already been able to block WC24 from updating in cSM (based off 3.2), but I ended up changing it up and making the update function update to my server instead of Nintendo's (think DAX CFW). I promise you won't get any autoupdates from me.

with cSM if the wii blinks blue and ya got a message from me, theres an update to cSM

This feature is not complete though, theres a lot involved in making it.

Long story short if I've traced it back in 3.2 then I shouldnt have a problem finding it in 3.4

Also to play it safe (I did it while making my patches to the update functions) block http://nus.cdn.shop.wii.com and http://nus.shop.wii.com in your router. (or just wii.com altogether, i mean who really goes there anyways).

Ok So I found out from a source that Gecko OS is still playable on HBC with the 3.4 update though Rebooter doesn't work anymore, the import part still does.

Though I'm still not convinced, can anyone confirm this for me?

(Note: I'm only using HBC for my imports i'm not a pirate!)

FRanatic: You're right. We officially need BootMii.

Well, the need has increased yes.

I'm wondering how many "I accidentally updated my Wii to 3.4 and now I don't have my homebrew anymore please help !!" threads will be opened in upcoming hours/days.
Mods will be putting in some overtime on controlling the boards

EDIT: Seems like the situation is already being taken care of. The update-blocking that is. (Thanks requiem and forsaeken).
Now to get Homebrew enabeled on 3.4. I'm sure that won't take too long aswell.

I just disabled WiiConnect24 in case my brother or sister accidently updates...

But damn, this update is a smart move of Nintendo! I wonder what the homebrew scene is going to do about it. For example, will there be a new Twilight Hack-like hack for another game, or is it still possible to fix the Twilight Hack? Could the Homebrew Channel be fixed? And what about BootMii, can it block future updates?

Thanks, Forsaekn. Let me know if there's anything you need.
Aye, to you as well my friend. Im heading to bed though, I'll tackle it tomorrow with a fresh mind. If you come up with any progress till' then PM me

Wii Hackers/homebrewers, better wait now to release stuff till the next big update (reading VC/WiiWare.etc... from SD).

Cause if the release stuff now, Nintendo will path those hacks to, i even bet the will delay the update a bit if that means fixing holes to prevent illegal software on the wii)

If you only run backups, i recommand installing a modchip.

Werid question, cant you use the "Rescue" Menu and downgrade the firmware?

Updated. I have a wiikey. Homebrew still works.

i think wiikey blocks updates anyway. i updated last time, but still can't use the shopping channel.

Thats not correct. I have the Wiikey (well the original one) and it does not block any updates. Up until a couple weeks ago when I installed the HBC, I've always updated with my chip, and never had a problem.
