Which one should I go for ? 2.5 or 3.5 ?

2.5" and 3.5" hard drives are both generally about the same. Not much difference (some differences exist, though they vary) between the two.

2.5" drives tend to die more often than 3.5" and also tend to be more expensive (although this is not true in every case).

Yes, the network adapter provides power for hard drives - Why would Sony require aftermarket mods for a consumer intended product.

The expansion bay connector has pins..I want to check each pin to see if there is a pin that can provide 12v for 3.5" drives...

3.5" drives require more power than 2.5" drives. So if the network adapter can power 3.5" drives, it can definitely power the 2.5" drives.

Not sure why this is relevant, since the network adapter already has a molex connector (power). The only PS2 fat model that requires an external power supply for the hard drive is the SCPH-10190 exclusive to Japan.

unless you're converting your network adapter to use SATA instead of IDE, you will need an adapter for 2.5" drives. IDE is physically different on the two drives. Otherwise, it should work fine.

See my post below yours IDE has a different physical connector between 2.5" and 3.5" 3.5" uses the standard molex power, 2.5" does not

Yes a physical difference exists between 2.5" and 3.5" IDE hard drives, but that's not my point.

Molex can supply 12v and 5v. it will work just the same if you get an adapter
