I am curious about this myself, since I got my DSi, I haven't updated it at all. I just got my AceKard 2i today and its working perfectly fine and I want to keep it that way. I know this may sound a bit stupid, but what exactly are the firmware updates for? I just don't understand, is it just downloadable content like on the 360 and PS3? And why does it come out now and not when the DS first came out and then with the Lite?

i was wonderin ...if nintendo updates dsi to block flash carts then will my dsi get bricked.....and how does nintendo update the dsi....is it wifi.....
so far the updates for all dsi's did not block flashcarts and even if it did it would not brick your dsi
yes they update by wifi but its done manually so you dont have to worry about auto updating the system

Keep in mind that the good DSi flash carts claim to have upgradable cores. This means that every part of the cart is reprogrammable (or so it seems), and in theory, they should be able to counter any updates by changing the way they boot (I'm assuming their plan is just to change what game it looks like).

Well if that's true, and it works that would be freaking awesome.

But the fix may not just be as easy as changing what game they look like. Nintendo may create a new way to detect flashcarts and then we may be in trouble...but if what you say is true then that means the flashcart creators should eventually find a way around it.
