GitLab has taken down the Suyu Nintendo Switch emulator

They did settle and it was approved by a judge. The court filing is here: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.rid.56980/gov.uscourts.rid.56980.10.0.pdf

GitLab has taken down the Suyu Nintendo Switch emulator

“Yuzu” was not sued by Nintendo and isn’t a legal entity. Tropic Haze which was a LLC setup by the devs of Yuzu was sued. They didn’t settle because they made an emulator. They settled because there was a lot of evidence they actively facilitated piracy and knew they were doing it. Not...

The Unknowns of Emulation: A Breakdown of Yuzu V. Nintendo

https://wccftech.com/yuzu-telemetry-piracy-nintendo-user-data/ There is a reason that even if Nintendo wanted to they don’t go after every emulator. The Yuzu devs made it easy as this article illustrates. They messed up and allowed Nintendo to muddy the waters with other claims they likely...

DraStic DS Emulator on Android is now free to download, will be taken down soon

An emulator moving from paid and closed source to open source and free is a good thing for emulation. I’m not seeing how this specific example is a “win” for Nintendo. The situation with Yuzu kicked the Dev into gear on something that ideally would have been done earlier.

Amazon has removed Emulation-Station from its app store because it "facilitates piracy"

For those pointing out that Emulation Station is legal, App Store content policies exclude content that is legal all the time. Amazon, Apple, Google only care about what it means for their business when making these decisions. Amazon tends to have more lax policies since they care less about...

Nintendo is suing the Yuzu emulator team

I didn’t know there were so many lawyers on this board.

Twin Galaxies and Billy Mitchell reach a private settlement in the defamation lawsuit

I enjoyed the King of Kong movie a lot. However, many of the people involved (particularly Billy Mitchell) seem completely insufferable.

Nintendo has taken down the Link's Awakening fan remake

I don’t think you understood what I wrote. I respect a wide variety of opinions in the conversation about a a company engaging with their fan community and the value it creates for their business. I don’t think there is one answer for all businesses, and I probably agree with you more than...

Nintendo has taken down the Link's Awakening fan remake

I can respect a wide variety of opinion about Nintendo’s strategy around fan made content and its relationship with those groups. The idea that Nintendo is doing something morally, ethically, or legally questionable in this case is wrong though. Nintendo’s business is based on the value of...

Nintendo has taken down the Link's Awakening fan remake

What magical time was this? Intellectual property laws have been around and affecting entertainment from before video games existence. Copy protection schemes have existed from the start of the video game industry and there was a patent infringement lawsuit around Pong and Magnavox which is...

Old games you thought they were great but you later realized they aren't

The best way to play Super Mario 64 DS was with the thumb pad that came on the “phat” DS wrist strap. It took a little while to get used to, but you essentially got analog support. At the time it was amazing to have an enhanced version of that game on a portable, but you are probably...

Gaming Extremely unpopular opinion: too many people hate consoles (specifically the switch) for not being as powerful of a gaming pc

While both the Switch and Steam Deck primarily exist to sell software for their companies they are different products aimed at different audiences. The business model of software sales is also different for both companies. Both are highly successful products, so clearly there are lots of...

Should I get a Steam Deck, and is it worth getting?

Steam has had multiple sales where the 64gb deck is $360 in the US. If you are playing older games, you don’t need anything else. If you want more space, you can get a quality 512gb sd card for $30-35 any day or a 1TB SSD for $60-70. For under $400-$420 you have a pretty capable handheld pc...

When the Switch2 comes out, do you expect it to have full Switch1 compatibility?

The Switch isn’t part of the GameBoy/DS/3DS line, but pretty much every portable Nintendo console has had at least 1 generation backwards compatibility. Some of their non-portable consoles (Wii, WiiU) did as well. They are probably sticking with a similar chipset from what we know. I expect...

What normal stuff do you buy that you will only purchase the brand-name or high quality version of, no matter the price?

They started in Boston, but I think they are available across the United States now: https://www.grillospickles.com/where-to-buy/ I like their “hot” flavor. I also like Clausen’s hot and spicy pickles, but they seemed to stop selling them by me.

Grillo’s are good as well. Life is too short for non-refrigerated pickles.
