If you can live with an 8-inch tablet instead of a 10 inch, take a look at the Archos 80 G9. $300 with very good specs for the price. While its not rootable now, a way to gain root has been found but just not released. Only thing to keep in mind is that Archos doesnt have a good track record...
He asked because there are several Galaxy Tabs out there. The one you have is the Galaxy Tab 7 (for 7" screen), but there's also a drastically different 10.1 inch model (called the Galaxy Tab 10). Its unfortunet but most people just refer to it as the Galaxy Tab, so it can be difficult to tell...
Verizon is CDMA, so DONT use the link above.
Here's a method to root, but not owning a tab I cant verify if it still works with the most recent update:
Galaxy Tab Root on XDA
If that doesnt work, ask in the Galaxy Tab Q&A section on that forum. They're pretty much the go-to place for Android...
...you realize you're comparing a single core 800mhz device to a 1.2ghz dual core device, right?
look at this... you only see the title screen, but you can still tell its speed by the animation on the horse

Glad you got it working. For future reference, you bricked probably because you had a custom rom on your phone when you uninstalled 2nd init. Only remove it if you're running a stock Motorola firmware.
Will the HP Touchpad get Android? Most certianly. But it'll probably be a while before its at a usable level. If you want a device that'll work for your needs the instant you get it (post-modding of course), the Nook is still the better choice. If you have patience, get an HP Touchpad now and...
Given that these are no longer being made, waiting might not be a good idea. They are already very difficult to find, by tomorrow I'll be they will all have been sold.
Heck, I only got mine because I got to a retail store an hour and a half before it opened.
I picked one up this morning and its certainly a steal at the $100 asking price. Only real issue is the severe drought of webOS apps, and the built in apps could use a tad more polished. Over on XDA, there's already a group of people who've decided to make an attempt at an Android port. Cant...
Its not the only good rom, but at the same time its a good starting point. Phiremod is good, as is MIUI if thats your thing (although it has some issues with control, seeing as it uses button savior instead of a more integrated solution for the menu and back buttons).
A few things to keep in mind with the Nook Color...
-Make sure you put CM7 and an overclock kernel on it, set to 1.2Ghz. Its pretty fast in this configuration
-Most 2D emulators will run full speed. N64 isnt really worth your time though. Dont know about PS1 emulation, havent tried it.
-Web...
You have to use an app in the market to sync a wiimote to get around that password.
This one works well for me on my Nook Color, it works by treating the remote as a keyboard so you'll have to map the buttons to certain keys and then set the emulator to use them...
Unless they've changed their policy very recently, you should be able to use any unlocked or (US) T-Mobile smartphone without a data plan, so long as you buy it from a 3rd party(ex. not a T-Mobile store or T-Mobile reseller) or pay full price (that is, not the contract discount). I would...
Unfortunetly, AT&T's policy is that if you have a recognized smartphone, you have a data plan. Its complete crap, but except for T-Mobile all the other carriers do the same so they can get away with it. They detected you based on your phone's IMEI number, which is a unique number assigned to...
For me, Android or WebOS.
Android has all the functionality you would expect out of a smartphone with the benifit of being open source. If Google were to die off tomorrow, Android would survive. If you don't like any aspect of it, nothing stops you from changing it to better suit you.
WebOS...
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
