    Thick DSi arrived. I'd like to avoid using gbatemp due to certain users and attitudes, but I'll pop in later to give updates if I make any progress recreating whatever this is... you can guess (:

    Great guess! I very much appreciate your post, the links have been very helpful in setting things up.

    I've been able to move the board to a development unit (and I found some necessary wires not listed on the pinout...) and start making a schematic for the capture card PCB. All on paper though as I've been lazy with learning to use kicad. Will do soon though lol.

    I know almost nothing about capture cards, but I love to tinker, I work with electronics, and I'm not half bad at soldering so I'm sure I'll get something working in not too long... assuming mcdonalds finally hires me so I have money to waste :P

    Didn't do anything for a couple weeks but I'm back. Working on TAD installing for fixing firmware, and I've made a HWInfo recovery test. This will search for HWInfo in 3 common offsets I know of, or search the entire twl_main. This is super important since HWInfo is the only per-console file we can't recreate.

    My todo list for this is so long. I didn't realize how many things are actually needed for the firmware not to crash...

    Started working on a new project! Nice handy DSi NAND repair tool. It should fix all bricks, and create a working NAND from absolutely nothing if needed. I still have tons to do but yay, maybe finally bricks and lost NAND backups will be a thing of the past.

    Give me the first 5 bytes of your DSi ConsoleID (eg. 0820225925102138) and I can tell you the manufacturing date within a few months, the initial firmware version, and maybe the versions of factory tools used as well.

    @Sono sadly the 6th number seems completely random, but thank you anyways.

    My guess is...
    - BOARD tests would have started between 2009/01 and 2009/02, and the version is v1.5
    - The initial firmware won't show up, but it will be pre-1.3, and probably v1.2.

    - IMPORT (assuming EUR) will be v1.1. If USA it will be v1.0
    - WRFU will be v0.60
    - MIC will be v2.1
    - FINAL will be v1.5

    - AGING will be v1.0
    - TP_CAL will be v2.0

    You can confirm this by checking nand:/sys/log/product.log

    Example:
    0,IMPORT,START,1.2, , , ,Sys=1.4.0 Pre=T1,

    The log format is <line type>,<tool type>,<tool version>, and then the rest is whatever other garbage (dates, debug info). You can see the initial firmware is v1.4.0 here. If that info doesn't exist then the firmware is pre-1.3.

    If you are using a SD card adapter, those can go bad. Even though your computer can see it, something about the fault prevents it some working on the DSi.

    I'm tired of saying it. These are called the freakleaks. The server is called freakleak. The leak info document is called freakleak. All the people in the know call it freakleak. BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF IF YOU CALL IT THE GAME FREAK LEAKS OR THE TERALEAKS!

    We'll only ever know the source as "GameFreakOUT"

    Tons of interesting stuff. Freakleak has been able to compile a handful of prototypes and tons of people are pouring over the assets. There have been builds where there isn't even a GUI resembling anything like final, just a bunch of flat colored boxes with some text. No sprites either. Really amazing stuff.

    It's insane how much the term "gigaleak" has been engraved into people's minds to the point that literally every leak now has this in their title. I despise this word since it doesn't describe at all when the leak happened or what's in it, other than that it's gigabytes or terabytes.

    The best part? The person that brought this word into existence hates it now as well.

    @sarkwalvein during the split between Julian and Gregorian calendars in Europe there were many double up days before all of Europe got on board

    And for religious purposes Eastern Europe still uses the Julian calendar, meaning in a little under 2 weeks that exact date will happen again

    And yeah growing up we had both calendars at home - they hand them out at orthodox church

    Yes, I know about the Orthodox Church using different dates because of the Gregorian Calendar shift... but I didn't know they kept two calendars with different current dates, I just expected they moved the festivities some 2 weeks later into the current calendar. The more you know.

    I hate passing arguments with SSH. Why can't programs I need to run just work and why do I have to do stupid environment variable stuff aaaaaaaaghhhhhhhhh

    People seem to forget. Computers are dumb machines, and it all depends on what the programmer attempts to make it do things for you. Otherwise it's spits out Garbage. My Lotus teacher said GIGO.

    It's not just computers being dumb. For safety reasons they make it so in-line SSH commands don't go through your .profile and .bashrc files. I had no idea this was the case, and for some reason trying to use those files in my inline SSH didn't work. In the end I had to include setting environment variables in the SSH which was awful.

    I also had no idea the tool I was using did SSH in-line, so I was trying to figure out why programs couldn't be detected by just normally logging in and using commands one by one. Completely the wrong idea.
