A possible hostage situation is reportedly taking place at Ubisoft's Montreal office building

Multiple French-speaking news outlets are reporting that a dramatic situation is taking place at Ubisoft Montreal. According to Journal de Quebec, TVA Nouvelles, and footage from Twitter users near the area, suspects have taken "dozens" of hostages inside Ubisoft's office. Police are currently recorded as being on the scene, approaching the building on Saint-Laurent Boulevard. Currently, sources claim that employees are hiding under their desks, are trapped on the roof, or have escaped the building.

[UPDATE]

Jason Schreier is reporting that Ubisoft employees have received security instructions and are evacuating, though the actual cause is unknown at this point, and that they're working with the police.

[UPDATE2]

The call has been reported as a hoax. No one was injured, and all employees appear to have safely left the building.

Maybe they were just playing AC: Valhalla and didn't want to leave yet.
well, all Ubisoft employees who were evacuated had the order to not talk to medias
So, maybe it's a marketing thing for one of their game?
The fee they'll pay for the fake call will be lesser compared to how much theyll get from that marketing coup

@Chary check the TVA Nouvelles link you wrote in the OP
they confirm that it was a fake

In before swatting attempts just got even more fun.

So

And this is apparently unacceptable? Now we have had some edge cases before on what may or may not
I thought it was a fairly standard character trait. Just when I thought twitter could not get any sillier.
I actually can see both sides of the argument. I think the issue at hand is supposedly because the character in the game says something along the line of they are only evil because they have scars which technically is ableism. For those that don't know what ableism is well at its heart, ableism is rooted in the assumption that disabled people require ‘fixing’ and defines people by their disability.

The character in the game is defined as evil because of their scars so thus the claims of ableism. Why couldn't the character be evil for other reasons?

Where I disagree with the claim is for the very reasons Fast6191 meantioned IE there is at least one character in pretty much every game/film/TV programme like this so why are ubisoft being attacked and nobody else is.

I'd say being born with a disfigurement would make it disgraceful to place such a person in that context but most 'villians' are portrayed this way to emphasise the error of their lives/ways/methods/thinking and or actions and how they came to be villainous(ie... Not accidental by method or means) but I think the whole point that they are completely fictional should not be overlooked nevermind ignored. Is this not an adult game? Can adults not make this comparison with their own brains?

Yes, minors may play this game even if its not for them but did any among us here actually think your chucky doll was alive and trying to kill you?? Kids are a hell of a lot smarter than modern adult gives them credit for.

I'd say perspective please! Real people are in danger here but a games fake text makes more waves.... Tut tut.

I certainly hope the people in that building are okay.

I still struggle to see any kind of point here. It seems a perfectly valid and historically (and presently) accurate for a burn victim to have it as a defining trait, and self selecting yourself out of society after such a thing... happens then and all the time to this day. To presume to tell someone that they should not have had such a thing in their work... I am not even sure how someone gets to that point. I equally hope none of those people ever read the Sword of Shadows series of books, or actually do as it is quite fun if you are after fantasy novel, the series (hopefully she comes back with the last one at some point).

It seems like one of those "will never stop finding something to whine about things, and if we do invent another" things. Am I supposed to complain because I have an English accent and thus someone thinks I am a villain or something because it has been in so many films?

Granted I thought the one where they went after the Marvel film thing because the super soldier lady's treatment made her infertile and thus she felt bad because of it (because there are not thousands of women either paying through the nose and risking it all for IVF, or other lamenting their lot in life for similar reasons) was even more silly.

Though if we are sticking with pure ableism then my absolutely favourite was some people responding to a comic where some lady goes back to a guy's house, sees no books and the message of the comic is make a swift exit if so.

You're kidding me, right?
THAT SPARKED CONTROVERSY?!
What kind of world are we living in?
same thing i tought...
Seriously everything we do is offensive to some random person this days, people claim they want freedom of speech and yet anything and everything is offensive to them, and twitter snowflakes just keep trying to make stuff like this into an issue to complain about.

in afew years from now,we wont be able to have anyone even kiss on a movie because some random person without lips cant do it or something of the likes, the world is turning worse every year.

damn i miss the 90s/2000s people could do and say what they liked without being crucified for every little thing, from 2010s and up this is just getting ridiculous.

I see what you mean, so I have to wonder at the larger context of it in the game. Why is she evil because of her scars? Is she blaming herself, or is she referring to society rejecting her because of her scars? If she's evil literally just because she has scars, that's one thing. If she's evil because she's been unfairly rejected by society over them, then that's another thing entirely.
