so i bought this cheap switch for a little weekend project. Said broken screen and they tried to fix but couldnt...
however they pulled a connector off the motherboard where one of the lcd ribbons attach.
it does not look like the pads have been removed but do not have the connector to re-attach?
any ideas other then getting another faulty switch?
thanks

decided to buy another faulty switch, hoping i could swap some parts.
the faulty one said it did not charge so thought would be able to swap the charging port over....
no, whatever this owner did, it looks like they tried to swap the usb c socket but there is a lot of black around the socket and several chips, its fu#ked!
so i need to go to plan c!
does anyone have any idea how i can remove the following connector without destroying it?? The smaller one of the two with the black clip is the one i need?
any tips please

It is soldered on to the board, unless you are good at desoldering and soldering part on to another board, don't waste your time and money buying broken unit.

If you can't get the connector off using hot air - just solder wires to the ribbon cable (or take the board out to see where the ribbon cable goes to), and solder wires from that directly to the pads. No need to buy anything then.

thanks for the reply.
i did think about just wiring the cable to the pads was worried if it didnt work though i would ruin the screen as the connector would be ruined too?
i think if i use hot air its going to melt so thats not an option.

If it is just a 4 pin connector* then fly some wires instead. You might end up having to do it anyway if the pads are ripped off** -- you might be lucky there and have those 4 pads not traverse the layers and thus just have to scrape back and solder on.
I can understand not wanting to do 30 but 4 is nothing, and looking at the ribbon that might even just be three traces that do anything.

*the back two looking more like mechanical fixings or maybe a ground plane connection. Easy enough to sort otherwise.

**from the shots you provided that is either white (common colour of PCBs) or silvery (common colour of solder). I can't tell from them though. I have seen both happen when something is ripped off, more pads gone than not when it gets this small but not enough talk in any kind of absolutes.

Desoldering plastic connectors like that such that they can be reused is a pain. I have yet to find a particularly reliable way of doing. I usually go with hot air, flowing some nice glorious leaded stuff on there to drop the temperature that little bit more, a bunch of flux, maybe some tin foil to shield the plastic and surroundings from the heat as much, solder wick to remove what solder you can. If you can do one pin at a time or section at a time then do that too. You have some partially hidden pads at the back

"but there is a lot of black around the socket and several chips, its fu#ked!"
If it still plays then there are other means to charge a battery and at least have a portable device. Those wireless charging addons people use for phones without it inbuilt being a good place to start looking.

Probably better to use kapton tape - rather than tinfoil. It won't blow off and can handle very high temperature.
For something this small then maybe. Generally if I am waving around the hot air it is tin foil with a hole in it to try to keep the heat more or less where I want it.

Combining the two is also an option. Don't know if I would order in some specially though. Could see myself skipping the foil if I had kapton around too.

thanks for the detailed reply. when i plug this new board into the plug through my usb voltage checker it goes off so seems completely dead. so as the board is just good for harvesting a few spares i might as well try and remove a few things!

Think you'll find it impossible to find anywhere in the UK that sells this part specifically (Unless you know a repair shop that can salvage it from a dead board) Usually these parts all originate from China, since thats where the Switch is manufactured.

I did find a few sellers on AliExpress who also sell this part and added a link in my prevous post.

thanks for all the replies!
success!
I have ordered a few from the aliexpress link above but couldnt wait so as one of my motherboards is destroyed decided to try and remove one.
started with a heat gun on low setting but the plastic started to melt so just went for a soldering iron on the 4 rear pins and gently lifted up, got it off with little damage and top clip still working.
the hardest part was getting it lined up on the new bored. with a little help from my zoom on my camera managed to get it on and soldered down, connected everything up and up she powered! :D
so now have a nice working switch, just need to find the holy grail of some cheap joycons.......
