My sd card died in my PC so now i'm stuck with what to do to get my 3DSXL working.

I have lost everything that was on the card and when I boot up my 3DSXL without a sd card in I get a message saying

"An error has occurred:

Failed to apply 1 FIRM patch(es).

Press any button to shutdown"

Its been a while since I used the 3DSXL but it already has Luma3DS v9.0 installed (When I boot holding select I can get into the Luma3DS config menu and on the bottom screen it says "Booted from CTRNAND via B9S" in yellow

What do I need to do to setup a new SD card and update Luma3DS to get everything back working again?

Thanks for your time

Before trusting a new SD you should check it for defect and/or fake.
  1. Reformat the SD to FAT32, 32kb cluster size, if bigger than 32GB and using Windows with guiformat.
  2. Check your SD Windows, Linux, OS X.
    • If you get any errors replace the SD.
    • If you get no errors proceed by copying the needed files on.
Once you are sure you can trust the new SD:
  • If you have a recent backup of you SD, just restore it to the new card.
  • If you do not have a backup: Download the latest Luma release and put boot.firm and boot.3dsx into the root of the new SD. Lastly repeat the finalizing page of the guide.
Here is a picture what your SD should look like. The screenshot is a bit older, so the file sizes for newer versions may be different.
Hopefully it is still somewhat correct/usable as illustration (the config.bin is created by Luma after the first start)
