I just bought a used switch from a store and tried out the joycons when I got home.
What I was confused by was the short travel distance of the analog stick?

In comparison to the Wii U Gamepad, it's very short and the stick feels a lot less smooth than the wii u gamepad sticks.

Is this how it's suppose to be or did I buy a "broken" used console? Everything else was in mint condition and should have been "checked" by the store to work. I bought it overseas and couldn't try it out but they opened it up and showed me everything very clearly and it's all in original packaging including all plastic bags etc. It was bought in Japan in a famous gaming store so I don't think it's "fake" or anything.

Joycon joysticks really don't feel very nice imo. They have a very short travel distance.

Then it's not just me I guess. Im very surprised that it's not on pair with the gamepad (wii u) which I think didn't feel quite right but now feels far better than the switch...

Be prepared to spend some additional money on Pro Controllers then, for my part I got used to the joycon sticks fairly well.
Maybe look into these 3rd Party dongles to reuse other Controllers!

I tried for a few weeks to get used to the joycons. But my fingers are to long to hold the switch properly and be able to use the joysticks with any degree of accuracy. The pro controller is better but it has an atrocious D-pad on it!

Are there many games that REQUIRE the motion controls to work? Otherwise I would just buy one of these Mayflash adapters and use my PS4 controller (which is one of the best controllers out there imo).

You'll still have your joycons even if those games do come up. The only game I'm aware of that requires joycons is 1-2 Switch. Though there's bound to be more.

Other than that, the PS3 and PS4 controllers work just as good as a PRO controller?
