Just checked it, the latest version of Retroarch has two arcade cores (FB Alpha 2012 and MAME 2000), not sure about the comptability but it should play most non-demanding games at normal speed. So, just get Retroarch.

It's prohibited to share download links of romsets and such, so look for those yourself.

Yes. The MAME support seems to be a bit crap which is a shame as the ps3 is so much more powerful than the Xbox og and that did a great job.

Here's hoping the upsurge in exploit interest gets a devs attention and we see a nicely optimised port or even better coin ops on PS3.

The thing is that the Xbox OG is basically a X86 machine with directx running. The cell processor on the ps3 make it worse than the Saturn to run stuff that weren't designed for it. That's the reason retroarch ps3 doesn't have a N64 emulator yet.

I heard MAME 2003 works a wee bit better than MAME 2000 (it's not built in with the stable Retroarch pkg), you might want to give it a try. I couldn't download it since Download Cores doesn't work for me, but you could find them, even here on GBATemp.

But don't get your hopes up. The comptability is supposedly only slightly better. Still, it's worth a try.

The complex structure of the PS3 makes it hard to develop certain emulators. Not sure but I read that the N64 emulator is not possible since it uses OpenGL, which is not supported on PS3, I think? That's what I read, it might not be correct, but either way the N64 emulator is out of question. I use my Wii for that so it's fine for me.
