From IGN:
"It's a rumour that's been flying around the internet for some time but Bungie has finally admitted it's "very likely" another developer created a DS version of Halo. However, the dev said that there has "never been an officially funded or sanctioned development of any sort of DS Halo game" from Bungie.

Speaking to Siliconera, Bungie's Brian Gerard and Frank O'Connor candidly tackled the subject of Halo DS. They confirmed that "every once in a while it does come up" and that Microsoft could potentially publish it through THQ, as it did before with Age of Empires: Age of Kings on DS.

Having said that, O'Connor doesn't believe the DS is well-suited to the FPS genre: "The problem is the DS is not an FPS console, right? It's not an FPS handheld. There really is no such thing. If we did something cool I would like to see it. But I would rather see the Halo IP on any handheld system applied to a different genre because handhelds don't necessarily do FPS well," he added.

So where does that leave Halo DS? Well, O'Connor thought that the brand could work better if it was "side-scrolling shoot-'em-up or whatever, but not necessarily an FPS" and that Bungie would never rule it out. "There is nothing going on right now", O'Connor concluded."

Does anyone still care?

Dude, when I think about games like Dementium and MetroidPrime Hunters (though the game was rushed and the story sucks), if the DS is not the perfect console for playing FPS, I don't know what is... PSP?

Well they work for Microsoft so they probably didn't even think about the touch scree, just its graphic capabilities.

I liked Metroid Hunters, other than cramp when playing for a while thought it played very well it was just too much backtracking in the game that seemed like it was only there to pad it out unlike MP games on the GC. I expected there to be more adventure and puzzle and I got a FPS, I hope Nintendo bring a sequel that corrects it.

Playing Metroid Prime on DS wasn't all that "great", FPS games just don't work so well without mouse and keyboard. Of course they are playable, like Metroid Prime was. But mouse + keyboard combination is the only RIGHT way of playing FPS games imho.

But Halo on DS? I guess even Bungie is starting to notice how to milk the market with really wanted game name. I bet the game will be bad if it gets released on DS.

I would LOVE to see Halo on the DS. Especially if it had some online multiplayer capability... Are there any FPS games where you can have more than 4 players online? Thats the only down side IMO to it, i like to have alot of people to shoot at

I hope that Microsoft and Nintendo would put their differences aside and make it happen! It would be really good for both sides.

Don't think it has much to do with Microsoft and Nintendo being rivals. Hell, I don't think it has anything to do with Nintendo at all. Microsoft isn't currently in the handheld market by their own means and they consider DS to be one method of reaching out to the handheld markets. They've even had other developers produce games for DS already such as MechAssault and Age of Empires.

The bigger problem is "how" do they bring the Halo franchise to the DS, as outlined in the article. And quite frankly, I have no clue how they would appease fans. I agree when they say that DS is not an FPS handheld. DS cannot match today's console FPS games in terms of gameplay, in my opinion of course.

It doesn't even need to be a FPS, it could be done very well if it was a over head shooter game and it can still keep some of its style and essence, plus level design could still have big levels as well as keeping the vehicles and it would work very well online with very little lag.

Anyone remember MoH: Infiltrator on the GBA? Other then the aiming it played about the same as the home console versions.

Yes the DS isn't built at all for FPS type gaming which is why Metroid and BiA DS titles suck so horribly and just can't be controlled, have nearly nothing going on screen, and have a shoddy unplayable frame rate.

OH yah, my bad, they don't...they're fun and very playable.

Sound like excuses to me really. Sadly I could see them pull that stunt and do a 2D side scroller Duke Nukem 2 like clone or something equally pathetic.

After playing Halo on my computer, I'm going to have to say I don't give a shit if it's real or not (we all know it's fake anyways).

Halo for ds would be really cool! but right now it seems very few games and devellopers are even stepping into the realm of first person shooters... >_< just picked up brothers in arms, athough its not really a fps i think games like it should pop up more for the ds...

then again i guess we always have to look back on nintendo as being a somewhat kid-aimed franchise? parents will not want their kids wifi-ing each other for deathmatches in halo XD

Bull**** is what Halo on the DS would turn out to be. I'm a big fan of Halo but I'll be damned if it comes out on the NDS -.-

Actually BIA does had a very bad frame rate but it was perfectly playable, and it was really fun too.

Honestly, Halo isn't really that fancy either. I mean all you do is kill enemies, jump around and drive the Warthog. I think it would be easy to make a DS port of the 1st game.
