Overpriced with a brick code should be factual enough.Otherwise use whatever you want,just accept that it has its risks like everything else.

The brickcode argument is getting old really. The closest legit GW users ever come to a brick was the sysnand downgrade process introduced by GW (extensively tested and fair warning was given for the actual risk involved). That process was pretty much taken/ripped off by the community. If anything, people are more likely to brick messing around on the sysnand with the various a9lh installers and payloads. GW acknowledges the risk of a9lh to the extent that they only recommend people with hardmod (aka advanced users) to use their a9lh implementation, this is something that the community has failed to do out of hubris:

I accept the brick code risk. My 3ds is a half broken Gen 1 3ds with a missing circle pad cap (not from sm4sh) and a broken L button.

These can be fixed easily and I will but I know there is always a risk modding the 3DS.

I fully modded my Gen 1 3DS and I plan to mod my XL and perform a systransfer and a backup and continue my original things on the XL. So if I DO get a brick then I can continue to use my XL for my 3DS modding.

had a gateway and a supercard dstwo+ and the supercard was better then a gateway in some ways and even then it was obsolete. the emulators actually play better on CFW then gateway.

gateway is a cfw, any homebrew emulator you can run on cfw can be ran on gw too, I think you must be thinking of the dstwo that used to be good for snes/gba emulators back in the nds days, but for a 3ds it was pretty pointless and just added excessive battery drain over a standard nds flashcard, I wonder why people are so determined to tell someone else how/what to spend their money on, they have already said they want one regardless of all the fear mongering

maybe one of they people who have one collecting dust could sell him theirs for cheap to recoup some of their initial costs, and he can get some use out of it for cheats etc if that's what he wants

Sad that we have to go 5 posts down just to get an answer to a pretty straightforward question. The brick code doesn't affect legit cards, and there's no way it will. Afaik, no one has bricked by using a legit gateway card as intended. There's no hassle that comes with it either, you simply copy 1 file to your SD card, format emunand, copy ROMs and cheats, and you're already set up.

in the interest of honesty nobody using a legit gateway card since gw launcher 2.0b2 has been bricked, which is about 3 years ago........amazing how people are still acting like it's a daily occurrence, yet when the a9lh bricks happen due to a bug people just act like "ohhhh well!, who cares the bricks are warranted because hacking is not for n00bs"

(ps before someone bring up all the details, I don't really care, I know gateway were shitty for making the brick codein the first place, but the legit users who got bricked were only bricked due to the bug in diagnostics, the use of brick code against clone teams Is a whole other topic)

User error vs intentional brick code. I don't care much either way.. But Gateway left a pretty sour taste in people's mouths after the whole ordeal... And it's shown. TBH, I don't see the issue with wanting a gateway. Just cool to hate I guess

heh wasn't quite quick enough with the edit XD, but yeah it's mostly people who weren't even around at the time looking for something to whinge and hate about, for the most part gateway are the only reason most of the current cfw came into existence so for better or worse they are a thing and they have one or two features that even free opensource cfw''s are still to best

but I mean even people who actually got bricked let things go a long time ago, seems bizarre people who didn't and only found out about it from 3 year old posts are so upset by it

I still have my gateway, sky3ds, and my R4. Since ive moved to A9LH, I havent used them. But not using them made me realize that they were very useful at the time. If youre looking for one to buy, its used but it works
