My son wants a PSP vita for his birthday, I'm going to get one for him but it's been a while since I've looked at any Sony product. Used to have a PSP years ago which I installed CFW on it. What's the score with the Vita? What can we do with it? Is there any alternative memory solutions because I know you have to use a specific Sony memory card which can be expensive. Thanks in advance guys

Its not PSP VITA.
Its PS VITA. Blindly go for a new sealed pack from stores so that you will be safe with regards to firmware version.

Make sure the vita runs version 3.60 or below to enjoy your hack.

please be aware there is no solution currently to use third party memory card.

What part of my post was misinformation? A temporary CFW is still a CFW. Henkaku is a CFW.
Please stop.
Henkaku is a homebrew enabler. Please tell me how this is custom FIRMWARE at all.
Running a temporary exploit =/= cfw.
Modifying a firmware and installing over native exploitable firmware = cfw.
You can call henkaku a plugin or framework or jailbreak or whatever but it is not close to cfw

We don't need such a conversation here. the person is just trying to ask what kind of firmware is good for him to achieve maximum benefits. that's all.

When you do get the Vita, just make sure that you do not use the Sony update feature to put your psn account onto it (if you have one) if you run the update from Sony on the system you will bring it up to 3.63 (I think) which will then not allow you to run any form of HenKaku on the system and there is no downgrading option available right now at least, from the moment you get your hands on the system you'll want to come here and follow the guides on how to manually update it to 3.60 (and no further) and then how to put Henkaku and more onto the system so you can enjoy a fully opened up Vita.

IIRC, Henkaku is a Homebrew Enabler/half CFW

The new one (taiHENkaku) is a full CFW because it has a better framework for that stuff. But it's still in beta so :P
(If I got something wrong, please tell me, I don't own a Vita so I'm not very good when it comes to Vita stuff :P )

OP, just try to get a 3.60 Vita, and be sure on what you do with it. Even if there are some security stuff, you might not know and end up installing a bad app. Just a little warning :3

Dude. Buy a vita lower os 3.60 fw like they said. Then search a perso of friend with knowedge to do the configuration for you. If you step wrong online will be problematic. Or, read the tutorials, search for updated videos about the process before you try by yourself. Have in mind you will need a ps3 or a ofw vita if you want to play psp backups too. If you think will be much trouble the entire process then use only the ps vita games ou buy a psp instead.

This is not the topic for discussing word terminology.
That's pretty dumb. OP needs to know the difference between the two or else we get another set of Vita users thinking they have cfw like their PSPs did. Another thing is user could go lookup Vita cfw thinking there is something like that out there and either get scammed or download a fake cfw that is really just ofw renamed. This happened during the ps3 scene and psp. With downgrading impossible for some time for those consoles it was a massive headache for users that got tricked into installing it.

Please do tell me what good it makes to hijack his/her topic to discuss whether or not it can be called a firmware? The opening poster wants to know what he can do on a PS Vita, not necessarily have people bickering over the before mentioned question.

How did I hijack a thread when I was explaining the difference between cfw and a jailbreak. Yes it is a big deal when people use wrong terminology to describe something. Someone who is used to cfw on PSPs or ps3s might think it's just a simple install through system update to be able to run warez or homebrew. And if they see a YouTube video on a tutorial because they would rather watch then read and someone fakes cfw with a fake 3.61+ firmware then OP or rando user is fucked just because they thought there was actually cfw out instead of knowing this is just a temp jailbreak.

So yes bickering about what we are calling cfw or jailbreak is important. And making it clear to our users, especially people just getting into Vita hacking or anything is even more important. If you educate the uneducated with misinformation then the uneducated stays uneducated.
