Cubic Ninja Is The First 3DS Game Without 3D

cubic_ninja.jpg
When AQ Interactive’s Cubic Ninja releases, it’ll be the first Nintendo 3DS game that isn’t in 3D. This is because the puzzle-platformer is controlled by moving and tilting the 3DS, making use of its internal gyrometer.

I'm surprised we already have a developer ballsy enough to release a game without 3D. I thought it would be like the ds which had too many stylus centered games the first year.

I'm gonna get that game. It seems it'll be fun times

The game will come with over a 100 stages. The stages will be divided into five areas, each with their own hazards like water, fire and so on.

The game will also include an editor that you’ll be able to use to edit stages. You’ll also be able to share your stages online.

That is tasty sauce.

Not really exicted, tbh.
It looks like a phone game to me.
No 3D makes it even less appealing.

3,990 yen = 48.7 US$
Being most of the 3DS titles around US$ 65 in japan you can expect it to be pretty cheap compared to the rest of the games. Maybe around 30? I'm just guessing.

You don't need buttons when the controlls are based on tilting the device.

Obviously, but buttons do tend to compliment untraditional control schemes. Take Yoshi's Topsy Turvy for example. That game is tilt controlled, but it also uses buttons for doing things like making Yoshi jump.

Nice to see that developers aren't all gonna jump on the 3D all at once.

If this isn't in 3D, then Super Monkey Ball shouldn't have been either.

I kind of don't like how all the developers just jumped into 3D to get a quick buck (With ports and stuff) but whatever you can turn it off if you don't like it.

But also, this is bad news. I could see that if one company makes a 2D game, all other developers are like, "Hey, why do the extra work if we don't have to?" and a few years down the line, only Nintendo games would be 3D.

It probably won't happen, but I know once 3D dies down a little, a higher percentage of games will not have 3D.

I was under the impression that Steel Diver wasn't 3D, as it used the depth slider to control... depth.
I don't know if that depth slider was what they called the 3D slider or if it's on the touch screen, but this is as I've always interpreted it.

I don't care about the 3D feature on the 3DS, but it would be nice to have the option to use it in games. Hopefully developers don't follow the same route these guys are doing and go lazy on us. Then again, 3D on some games may feel cheap and tacked on...
