Would you buy the new system if it comes out o.O?
I mean, even though it has been a while since the DS first came out, the DS still seems new.
Everyone wants one, and everyone still wants some games for it and tons of releases are coming out.
And a lot of people just bought it....

How long has it been since the DS Phat?

Same here - right side of the touch screen on my Lite doesn't calibrate correctly. I bought it in April 2006 just after Japanese launch (March 06).. still have my original Japanese DS as well, bought January 2005 (it was released just before that in both US & Japan in December 2004 I think).

A completely new system may be announced soon after since it's already been 4 years since the DS' release.
GBA came out in 2001, DS came out in 2004, that's a 3 year gap. So, I'll wait for the new system.

all i want is them to actually use their brains for the next pokemon game and put some modern gameplay into it. so lazy and repetitive. surely they could try pokemon stadium battle graphics or something

If i remember correctly, DS-Lite came out in 2006....(2 years after DS phat came out)

3 years to reap benefits of it before launching new system...is 2006+3=2009.

I'm still happy with my DS..but will be looking forward to more (better) game titles.

I wouldn't buy a new DS model. I'm rather happy with my Lite, it can be a little uncomfortable to hold but I can live with that. Any touchscreen weirdness is normally caused by me holding the stylus at a slanted angle like I hold pens

As for a new Nintendo handheld... probably not. To tell the truth there's plenty of titles in the GBA catalogue that I still want to check out, as well as quite a few on the DS. Add another system and there just wouldn't be enough time! Maybe later in it's lifespan.

Probably not since my phat crapped out on me and I'm getting a lite soon.
If its shown in E3 and it really is awesome, then I might consider waiting but I find that very unlikely.

I think both the DS phat and lite were pretty faulty, actually i think they are both the worse designed handhelds that nintendo ever developed, ohh not worse than virtual boy, but that wasnt even portable. Dont take me wrong i do love the DS but the way i see it: the phat model had wierd edges around the joypad that hurt your palms, really looks like a prototype, the click buttons were not a good idea, and when you close the screen down it really didnt flush, plus it was heavy. then the ds lite came around and solved some of the problems, it is lighter, the stylus is great and the buttons were push instead of click ... but the dpad is really faulty and terrible to use, unless you mod it you wont be able to play street fighter with it, really doesnt work well, and theres no reason for it .. some ppl say its cause its a smaller dpad but i compared it with my gameboy advance 1st generation and its about the same size. This is a big flaw in my opinion, another big flaw is the edges of the lower part of the ds, they are straight corners that, again, really hurt your hands while holding the handheld for long. So i say the ds lite is all about looks, rip off of apple's macbook look, but sure looks pretty. Plus why the hell didnt it come with a thumb pad? playing mario 64 and metroid prime with the stylus sucks cause yull have to hold your ds in a wierd way. Well i hope nintendo does a better job this time, especially in the ergonomics part of making a console, and hopefully, althought i really think they wont, let the slot 2 feature there still.
Let's pray and see.

I'd probably buy a new DS model if one came out. My Lite's touchscreen is completely inaccurate on the right hand side.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one. There's like three people with faulty right screens. It's the exact same with mine - don't get me wrong, everything else works marvelously it's just that touch screen on the right hand side. I've tried everything too. Worst part? It happened before my warranty ran out but I was in another country - and was returning to the country a week after it did run out. That sucked.

My GFs L button has some issues though too. It's too difficult to press. But her touch screen is flawless. That perfect DS seems to be pretty elusive.
