Hey all I've been working on porting Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 from the PS2 to the New Nintendo 3DS/2DS system and I'm proud to say after months of work, I've finally finished it! There are only a few issues, which are noted in the README.MD on the GitHub repository, however, otherwise it is a 100% complete port. I even played it the other day (whilst I was still working on finalizing and polishing the release) when I was out and about. You can see some photos below (yes they're still not direct captures, I just feel like this is more authentic, and more difficult to call it Azahar emulated or AI). I did censor some of the photos since it had my real name in it but otherwise, they're down below:

So implemented in this are all the PS2 cheat codes, entire career, the bonus video you get when you beat the game, credits, literally everything. The game is designed to be capped/locked at 30 FPS, which is what the game was also originally designed to do, so just keeping to the spirit of that. But also, its because with timing, if you let the FPS go above 30, issues can arise so that's why its capped/locked as originally intended. Besides, this port stretches the limits of the 3DS wholeheartedly, and that's why its a N3DS-exclusive port. Old 3DS crashed just trying to load a track. There have been absolutely no downgrades of quality or textures, this is the game as you would have seen it on the PS2, minus the bottom screen of course lol.

With that being said, AI disclosure time (also on the README at the bottom): Claude Opus 5.5 was used to help make this project possible. Specifically, it decompiled the game in full and ported it to the 3DS, and helped me debug in Azahar, then I tested by myself on real hardware (on a New Nintendo 3DS XL).

Finally, you'll need to supply your own game files (preferably from the PAL release as that's what the port is based on, all others are untested). Simply putting the ISO in wont work. You will need to use the Python tools in the GitHub repository to extract the files from the ISO (or use a tool like PowerISO to do it yourself) and then put all those folders in sdmc:/NFSHP2 and the game will access the data from there. If you are playing the 3dsx version, the directory is sdmc:/3ds/NFSHP2, but you can change this by putting the directory you want in nfshp2_config.txt as the README instructs.

With all that being said, hope you all enjoy and here's the links:

If you need any support or help, or wish to report bugs, please do so here or make an issue on the repository. Logs would be most helpful but photos/videos are good too. :)

Hello! wanna ask you something i hope you read this, for whatever reason either the .Cia or the .3dsx won't find the data for the game, got the data from my own game using power iso, made a directory like the .Cia tells me (/3ds/NFSHP2-3DS/data) but it still won't read the data itself.

Any idea of why? Thanks a lot for the work on this port, i can't wait to play it!

The CIA file reads game data in sdmc:/NFSHP2 whereas the 3dsx reads data in sdmc:/3ds/NFSHP2-3DS/data. The defaults are different for 3dsx and CIA. You can also change the folder directory by configuring nfshp2_config.txt and putting it on the root of your SD card or in the 3ds folder if using 3dsx version. I hope this helps!

Im not sure what im doing wrong, but something i must be doing wrong. Got the .bin files from the game, put them into sdmc:/NFSHP2, even created a data folder just in case, the game still tells me that there is no data. Im not sure where this "nfshp2_config.txt" is nor im sure how to get such txt. Sorry for all the inconveniences!

If you read the README it says you can create it to configure the game. Also you need to copy the folders inside the game verbatim. Don't just slap files in there. It should be laid out like this.

Thanks for the image to see how it should end up looking, but sadly i can't for the life of me do the steps properly, i made the "PS2 Files/Full Game/" Folders, put the .bin files on PS2 Files, try to use zdir_extract, nothing happens. Im not super savvy with python sadly. If you ever make a video showing how it works, it would be great! In the meantime i will try to figure out what im doing wrong! Thanks a lot for the replies!

Believe it or not, Underground 2 is in the works

Underground 2 was my first exposure to the Doors -that Riders on The Storm remix with Snoop was pretty good, all things considered- as well as NFS on the new and powerful ps2, i enjoyed it apart from the ai rubber-banding which can get very frustrating (same with Most Wanted and Carbon), had alot of fun with the car customizations too.

song for context:
