Hi all, I'm the author of this driver and wanted to share it here, since the PS5 HD Camera is one of those accessories that spends most of its life in a drawer.
PS5CameraDriver is free and open source (GPL-3.0). It makes the camera a regular PC webcam:
- Windows 11: 1920x1080 at 60 fps in any app, as "PS5 Camera".
- Background blur from stereo depth: the two sensors give a depth map on the GPU (census + SGM), no neural networks. Hair and headphones stay sharp.
- Linux: 1080p 30/60 plus an experimental blur (Vulkan, v4l2loopback). macOS: 1080p 30/60 without blur.
The interesting bit for this forum: the camera boots as a loader and needs firmware on every plug-in. The driver doesn't ship Sony's firmware; it downloads the original, verifies the hash and applies a 90-byte patch. The patch unlocks 1080p60 (stock stops at 30) and adds a stereo mode where the bridge chip downscales the second sensor to 960x540, because two full 1080p60 streams don't fit the USB 3 link.
Needs a USB 3 port, no adapter. The PS4 camera is not supported.

Questions and bug reports welcome here or on GitHub. Reports from AMD and Intel GPUs and from Linux are especially useful.
