Majora's Mask 3D gets its own single-screen experience as a custom Azahar fork

It wasn't too long ago we reported on a mod for Ocarina of Time 3D that enabled you to play the game entirely on a single screen. Having just launched yesterday, it turns out Majora's Mask 3D is getting similar treatment, though in the form of a custom Azahar fork. When launching the game through this fork, you'll have access to an entirely new HUD, a 16:9 aspect ratio, alongside the changes from Project Restoration, and a bunch more.

You can find a full overview of what's on offer listed below:
  • Gear, Masks, Items, and Map accessible all through one screen with item models and descriptions preserved
  • Full Bomber's Notebook functionality on one screen
  • Song menu, song of double time, and give item menus accessible on one screen
  • File select and options on one screen
  • On-screen minimap (hold ZR and press SELECT to hide or show it)
  • Project Restoration features (https://restoration.zora.re/)
  • Redesigned HUD elements (smaller and wider textboxes, thicker magic bar) meant to emulate a console-like experience
  • HUD scaling, positioning, spacing, and visibility controls
  • Difficulty options (damage multiplier, adjustable red potion, blue potion, and bottled fairy healing, no heart, rupee, fairy, or magic drops, disabled ammo pickups, rupee loss or moon crash on death, and doubled purchase prices)
  • Widescreen, increased FOV, and slider to adjust camera distance
  • References in text to the bottom screen and other 3DS specific features have been replaced with any new controls for a more console-like experience
  • Correct rupee sounds for HLE audio (for the first time through a 3DS emulator!)
  • Pause menu background image adapts to resolution (3DS/emulators default to 240p)
  • Correct bloom lighting at higher resolutions
  • Custom texture support
  • Many other minor changes in camera and HUD elements
For those interested, the following AI disclosure was provided.

AI Disclosure said:
AI was used extensively for the purpose of identifying each element the game renders and allowing repositioning, scaling, and transforming of them from the bottom screen to the top screen. This project otherwise would not have been feasible for me to do as the game is not yet decompiled and changes have to be done at the assembly level. However, all repositioning/scaling of the elements for a clean interface was done by me and required a lot of forethought in terms ofhow the layouts should look. For those unwilling to try this project because of this, please play the recompilation which is also an excellent way to enjoy this game.

If you want to try this for yourself, you can find both the GameBanana and GitHub pages linked below. Be aware however that at the time of writing, no source code is provided in the repo.

My brother in Christ have people relied so much on AI that they felt the need to use it on a simple HUD mod??????? People out here acting like coding was impossible prior to Claude. Into the trash it goes
Robot please move these things to the top screen thank you

Were you personally funding developers before AI so that they could work on stuff like this full time? Didn't think so. That's why we'd be lucky to get two of these projects released per year before.

This, the 3DS was hacked 15 years and yet that mod that was very much needed hadn't been developped yet, now we have in some form, you can either spit on it or use it, but without AI, it simply wouldn't be there.

Edit: I wish it worked though, I 100% have the decrypted USA Rev 1 version of Majora's Mask and yet it outputs an error

Edit2: I guess it wasn't decrypted, the website where I got it lied.

Exactly!! An honest question,if this mod was coded by Tim Sweeney,Jon Carmack or Marat Fayzulin ,would the mod be considered more authentic? Absolutely not ! I remember the same thing in early 2000 were some idiots considered people that drives automatic cars not "real drivers",whatever that means...

Love the disclosure, but ai or no, if I play this version, I'm playing it in dual screen.
Yeah, I have to agree. If it's a DS/3DS game at its base, then it doesn't really feel right without the second screen. It'd be different if it was something more like Etrian Odyssey Collection where parts of the game were potentially directly reworked to naturally work on a single screen (while still having touchscreen functionality for Switch), but this is just trying to force a 3DS game with 3DS controls into a single-screen experience. That doesn't always work well.

But this is also a game that was originally single screen being adapted to two screens, so it's just putting it back closer to how it was before.

Almost. The original Majora's Mask didn't, for instance, have a 4th item slot that any attempt to push the 3DS version to single screen would have to account for. And that's just one of the things on the bottom touchscreen that have to be accounted for.

It's the same as with the Etrian Odyssey games having their maps and drawing tools entirely in the bottom screen while the top screen displayed the 1st-person view and menus. Atlus couldn't just slap the two screens together and call it a day: they had to rework parts of the first three games to make them 100% functional in the HD Collection - to (almost) divorce the maps functions from touchscreen functionality entirely. (Almost, because like I said, Switch and PC retain options for drawing maps the original way.)

Not trying to discredit any human elements that went into this project. Just pointing out how tricky it would be to translate everything in a 3DS game into one screen and still retain the same feeling as playing the game on an actual 3DS/2DS system. And before you say anything, while I haven't played Majora's Mask (outside of playing a couple hours through NSO), I did complete both modes for Ocarina of Time 3D (in 3D when my O3DS's 3D functionality still worked, no less) as well as the Gamecube release - both on actual hardware - so I know/remember how both versions "feel". And I'd say the same for Ocarina of Time 3D having a similar modification.

So let me get this straight: This isn't a patch, it's a dedicated Azahar fork, right? And there's no stereoscopic 3D available for whatever reason, right?

No stereoscopic 3D, then it goes right in the bin AFAIC. Plus why a dedicated fork? Why not just a patch FFS like was recently done with Ocarina 3D? This whole thing is idiotic.

I think the better question is, how many PC monitors support display technology compatible with 3DS.

Is there anyone on these threads complaining about AI usage that has ever wrote a single line of code in their life, let alone worked on any heavy reverse engineering project?
