Take-Two forces end to homebrew GTA V Switch port project

The in-progress Switch port of the 2013 Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto V has been forced to end progress after Take-Two Interactive has threatened legal action against its creator(s).

The homebrew project which used the leaked source code of GTA V was still in early stages, but was making good progress; running natively on Switch. With performance at around 10–25 frames per second on standard hardware and up to 30 fps on overclocked units.

The project's lead developer, known as M0jso, announced on September 28 that the group would stop work by October 3rd. He said he was "thankful for Take-Two's mercy" and admitted the team would had zero chance of winning in court.

It's unclear why there was never any official Switch version, since the console is roughly on par with the PS3 and Xbox 360, where GTA V first released. Was it a business decision, a technical one or simply not a fit for the usual Nintendo audience? What do you think?

Also is this the true end of a fully playable GTA V experience on the Switch or do you think others will now step up to tackle the unfinished project?

Company not happy about people using source code that was leaked on the internet.
In other news, water is wet.

Yeahhhh this is the biggest "ehhh' of this situation here

Touching confidential leaked source code is already a big legal no no... actively rebuilding and utilizing it publicly is a very very big no no no... And stupid!

I'd could under dev side if this was another recomp or decomp... But it's not. It's utilizing stolen company assets

If they’re so mad about this port, why don’t they make their own then

Make it make sense :P

This is completely different, this is not stolen source code like the GTAV port was, but a port from x360 which you must provide a legal copy of yourself. Try reading first before commenting.
it was proven they partially used official code (debug symbols) to speed up the process so the gta3/vc ports were still illegal actually

Casual reminder that this project would've received a playable build if it was kept a secret until ready.
But then the developer can't be slightly internet famous for like a month.

I feel like this could have a different ending had the dev used a cleanly reverse-engineered source code instead of the leaked source code.
I don't know about that. Take-Two is pretty litigious.

as much as I hate GTA5, i appreciate the devs of the port making so that everyone could play GTA on a console not indended for it, this is bound to happen as long as Rockstar is still in business, hell they even take down mods that bridges the maps of the other games together in San Andreas, they definitely find all excuses in the book to beat anyone over the head with anything they dont like or happen to mess with their GTA Online sharkcards money

Hey i'm running latest patch (v4) but i'm getting crashes in free roam and mission, is there a more stable version or fix?

The idiot that got taken down has what i call "Dev Ego". Instead of porting it and releasing it real quick, he was more interested in the clout.

If no actual team ever picked up the project, I'm sure some lawyer at Rockstar presented the identical idea.

(Rockstar) "Our code has been leaked, our egos have been damaged, what will we do now?

(Lawyer) "No problem, just have a shill team start a homebrew GTA V game, then we'll threaten them and have them publicly say, thank you for your mercy for not suing us."

if i wasnt busy with some other work ,i would have looked into it.switch needs gta and that lame konami football game to thrive here in africa.well maybe few ps3 exclusives too.

I wouldn't be surprised if companies have been manipulating shill groups to deceive the public for years now, all they need to do is create a bufferzone so it cannot get back to the company.

An industry doesn't get to the point of oozing pussfilled greed unless the people behind these companies are predators that want to exploit consumers. Micro transactions, charging for DLC, Digital Only, manipulating people to think their unethical values are something to strive for.

They are not offering a premium product, so they don't get the premium price tag they're asking for. $25 Max for AAA, that's it, not a dime more, ever. $60, $70, $80 for physical Switch 2 games, these companies are delusional. They were delusional charging those prices years ago and they are delusional now. $30-$40 for physical.

Go back to selling tv's, office programs, and sleezy hotels, because you three amigos are suck on stupid and their stupidity it contagious if Steam is now pointing, in that direction too.

These companies fabricate so much illusion as if it's projected and accepted by society they begin to believe their own filth especially when they notice fractions of the younger generations being fooled into ignorantly adopting these company's brain damaged ways as the norm.
