'Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and 'Shadow of War' launch on Nintendo Switch 2

Aspyr has launched Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2. The games are available individually or as part of the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle on Nintendo Switch 2.

If you are unfamiliar with those titles, they are both set in Tolkien's Middle-earth universe and take place between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. In Shadow of Mordor, we are introduced to protagonist Talion, a Gondorian Ranger, who witnesses the murder of his wife and son and escapes the same fate with the help of the wraith of the Elf Lord Celebrimbor. Talion and Celebrimbor pair up to traverse Mordor and avenge the loss of Talion's close ones. Shadow of War picks up after the events of the first game, this time seeing the pair on a new quest involving a new Ring of Power.

Both games are designed as open-world action-adventure titles, but their biggest difference from other games in this genre is the Nemesis System. This feature tracks your interactions with main enemies, leading to corresponding reactions later in the game. For example, an Uruk that defeats you in combat will remember this feat and taunt you in subsequent encounters. The sequel expands on this mechanic to track the player's gameplay style and have enemies adapt accordingly. The personalised rivalry with NPCs that this generates is impressive and unique to these games, especially considering that the mechanic was patented.

Being a fan of the Middle-earth universe will definitely sell you on this game, but if you aren't much into this setting, the gameplay can be convincing considering its uniqueness. It also blends quite a bit of stealth, with the open-world design encouraging multiple ways to perform sneaky manoeuvres.

I've tried both games on the Switch 2, and they run well, not surprising considering that they are both almost 10 years old. They make use of the device's gyro aiming, which makes for a fun nice-to-have. Being on Nintendo's latest console, the games also benefit from the convenience of portability. However, none of these new features makes them particularly must-haves. These games are available on quite a few systems by now, so you can play them for cheaper if you have older consoles. But if the Switch 2 is the only way you have to experience them, you can give the first title a go, if it is only to experience what the Nemesis System has to offer.

The Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle is currently available for $34.99 (a 50% discount off its base price of $69.99 through October 5) on the Nintendo eShop. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition can also be purchased individually for $9.99 ($19.99 before the 50% discount), while Middle-earth: Shadow of War™ Definitive Edition is available for $24.99 ($49.99 before the 50% discount).

Cool. Those games are exceptional... in that I finished them even though I got them as freebies.
Not eager to pay for them, though, as long as WB Games has a freakin' patent on the Nemesis system.

New console.....

Old shit you can buy from a charity shop.

This is what nintendo calls improved support, devs just push all their old libraries over at last.

Its like Nintendo fanboys dont realise how much more they're paying to play crap ports.

Ohh wow its portable, I can play these portable and free, epic gave them away yonks ago.

they are the best games I've played in my life. Don't worry, I'm sure one of their Dev will use the Nemesis system for another lord of the rings game. It's a matter of time.

Do you think these billion Data center investment were for your pokemon recomp? Big companies use them for research, databases, face recognition and others stuff.Among these Game Dev use them for fast assests upscale/downscale,code conversion and debugging.Everyone today is using AI directly or indirectly.
Just imagine a small studio working on remaster/ports saving on money,20 employees payed for 6 months plus bonus. That work can be done in 2 month max.Of course publisher will be billed for the 6 months work usually take.

the continuing trend of the switch 2 being a conjob never ceases to amaze me. how people can say positive things about the switch 2 when there are so few exclusives and the majority of the games are years old games.

the lemmings will be lemmings though. walk off the cliff and keep smiling and do as your told fanboys.
