Might as well play the GameCube version of Twilight Princess? :P
That version is also good from what I've heard, yeah

But its expensive (100 dollars), and the Wii version has native widescreen which is nice, compared to the GameCube widescreen gecko code having some issues

And lastly the Wii version is just significantly cheaper in general. Like 10 / 20 dollars last i checked

This is why I download them from the Internet

Ill die if i look at this game for another second (again!)

Highlight to @NestorM who was interested in both games getting CC Support.

Amazing as usual!

Now that you have done 2 GameCube hacks, do you plan to make any documentation thread on how to make it? Or would it be too game specific to be useful

Here's some documentation:

Code:
http://gist.github.com/quatric/257a40993345c2c7568b9154c00186fd/

I'll be honest, Claude makes stuff like this a lot easier with the ghydra MCP, with a plugin to load DOL files. I think, if you hand this document to Claude, it can make your life so much easier. For Barrel Blast, I had to use a USB Gecko to debug why it wasn't working, Animal Crossing didn't need one at all

@awesomeee I'm working on multiple patches at once to support GC controllers and maybe Forecast Channel, Bongos, or SDHC cards. I should have a plethora of them tomorrow

That sounds great! Is there any way I can help? I own quite a good amount of Wii games

If Kirby’s return to dream land Wii is on your list, it has a symbol map and it also has all the GCN symbols like PADRead and PADInit. It also seems to fire when breakpointed which might be a good sign

Questions:

1. Any games you specifically want to have GameCube and/or DK Bongos support?
2. Any games you want to see Forecast Channel support for?
3. Any games you want to see SDHC card support for? (>2GB size)

A subscription to Claude Code will only cost you $20 a month, you could invest in that and start making some patches

Right now I'm working on patches for:
  • Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
  • Pikmin 2
  • Endless Ocean
  • Endless Ocean: Blue World
  • Excite Truck
  • All 5 Taiko no Tatsujin games
I was thinking of doing some more of the New Play Control formats. I'm sorry if you don't like the ISO patcher approach that much, I prefer USB loaders and like to work on stuff like this in between my next ambitious project. So I'd love to deck out support for more games, but I don't want to do this with every single game in existence, and I also think a better way to browse this thread would be good. Maybe report the thread and ask for access to edit the OP if Vague Rant is MIA?

The Barrel Blast patch, and Animal Crossing, made a good blueprint to start patching more games, like a recipe :)

I think Kirby's Return to Dream Land (Wii) would be a good candidate since a classic controller AND nunchuk mod exists, (ll send the gecko below), and could be cool

I also have a WiiWare game called Fluidity which would be really nice seeing gamecube support for. Sadly it is missing some PAD symbols when i checked but a Classic Controller mod exists which we can leverage off of (and nunchuk)

I own Pikmin 2 so i can test that. Sadly none of the others

No hassle of course 👍

I dont have coding experience so i mostly go off Vague Rant's documentation when i try and do the hacks. And lots of AI help lol. All i care is the gecko codes work lol.

As for SDHC and Forecast channel, no not off the top of my mind.

I still have the assemblies for the Fluidity and Kirby's return to Dream Land nunchuk / classic support, so I could send those over if you decide to investigate it later on.

Anyways one more thing

Sadly vague rant retired some time ago. I wish it could have been communicated better but sadly after publishing their Monster Hunter G nunchuk hack, they went silent but are still fine (Github they have some activity).

But updating the thread would be great i agree

See if you can report the thread to get edit access to the OP, I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

I don't think the way my patches work HAVE to include GC symbols, but yeah I'll do Kirby Return to Dream Land.

I've updated the Fluidity code to also add GameCube controller support. Missing the right stick functionality, but ill get back to it eventually.

So did you add it or not?

Yeah, the ASM code could be useful

So did you add it or not?
About that

So I was going off of some old Kirby Wii code for GameCube support, but apparently that only worked on emulators so I decided to abandon it

TLDR: the current code for fluidity does not work with the GameCube controller on real hardware. Only on emulators

I’ll send the assemblies later. I currently need to have dinner

And funny enough I did end up collaborating with someone else for a pikmin 2 classic controller hack before you made yours haha

That could be the memory mapping, which is what I experienced with the DK Bongos until I used my USB Gecko. I had to wire a really long USB extension cable to investigate it to my computer... lol. I think some of these patches are so enormous that they cannot fit as a Gecko code. Also I have to make games with the SDHC capability force IOS 249 on.

Yeah, I based the Pikmin 2 off yours so I'm gonna try Pikmin 1.
