The weekend is here, what are you playing?

It's been something of a quiet week in the gaming space, with the deluge of big hitters trying to find their place before GTA 6 launches really kicking off next week. Even so we've had some good releases; Valheim got its 1.0 release, there's a new Legend of Heroes game, and Mewgenics found its way onto the Switch 2. Coming into the weekend now, what are you playing? Are you keeping yourself occupied with new games, or digging deep into the backlog?

On my side of the fence it's a heck of a lot of Monster Hunter, specifically the English translation of Portable 3rd on the PSP. It's something of a culture shock to go back to a game that doesn't have a target camera, but at the very least Portable 3rd has a lot of the modern-ish niceties that at least minimise the friction a touch. I just fought my first Qurupeco in maybe ten years though and can soundly say that deserved to be left behind in the third generation. It is abhorrent. Beyond that though, I'm also grabbing my partner where available to smash through Orbitals on the Switch 2. I'll keep my thoughts light here with me planning to put together a video and write up for it, but hey, it's pretty great.

Let us know how you're getting on this weekend.

You lovely Nintenderp babies, hahahaha. Freedom forever! I do thus kinda miss not being there for Tri nor the 3DS stuff when it was all in its prime, but you know not the joys of juggling the los couple amidst their marital dispute and that fight being when the game mechanics finally click in your head. Speaking of, what were both of your game mechanic click moments?
Ahahaha, I really do want to enjoy Freedom Unite. And I will give it a fair shot again at some point. It's just every time I go back to it, I'm reminded how good I had it in the third generation.

As for things clicking, I was a child of the Dual Blades for my first game, so there really wasn't much to click. No huge punishments for overly committing like you had with pretty much every other weapon. I've always kind of just muddled through and had a good time doing so. I will say my first "oh my god this is awesome" moment was the Kelbi Slimeshot though. Slime was so good in 3U, and that weapon really did take it to another level.

Oh no that's totally valid. It's the type of game that'll either click or it won't, I wouldn't say it's a skill thing.

Oh you absolutely had it good without having to use THE claw for camera movement, and partially why I actually appreciate my dusty NEW3DS with its little nipple that Generations used properly.

I think I mixed about LS and Duals in the early days, so DPS was the same muddy experience. In fact, I'm kinda trying to think when I made the ultimate decision to BONK and haven't looked back since.....I don't wanna say it was World, but then I wouldn't have been ecstatic about Rise finally giving the bonk proper mobility, so it must have been World at some point or another. Generations were hard dual phase with the aerial style that made you a much more deadly glaive without having to deal with kinsects.

Here's the thing - it has that "click" point and like learning almost any technical fighting game - you either persevere to and past that breakthrough eureka moment, or you don't. I'd recommend trying to because the beauty of MH as a series is that all your weapon skill and monster attack pattern knowledge translates seamlessly across the entire franchise so you'll never feel like you have to re-learn the whole thing all over again when you go through the games.

I'm playing Taking my kids to the ball game, Swing by Safeway for groceries, BC Cannabis for some pre-rolls, pick up my wife's power wheelchair from the maintenance folks. And if they don't want to go to the beach later, I can hopefully put in an hour or two of Star Wars Zero Company. :creep:
Cheers to playing the game called Life!!!! Have fun!!!

Yeah that's the problem. I don't have the time nor energy to put toward that. I'd have to dedicate myself to a game I have at this point no interest to have "click".

I'll stick to my Nintendo Warriors or Trials of Mana remake in terms of action RPGs.

The NHanced Mod for PC is an amazing mod to make Crash 4 much less mind numbing to 100%

Thank Bro, have installed it.

I've just finished Popful Mail on the Mega CD on my Retroid Nova. I first played it in 2010/2011 and have made potentially 100 starts but would be distracted to moe onto something else. This was the playthrough to finish the fucker and I can move on with my life.

I'm in the latter half of Disco Elysium's successor, Zero Parades: For Dead Spies.

Disco Elysium is a hard act to follow. That sarcastic nihilistic tone Disco was known for is here in Zero Parades, but it felt dissonant initially. "Iced-out international spy trapped in a government conspiracy" feels much more serious than "deadbeat cop whose life is falling apart", so that sarcastic humor didn't land at first.

But I think they've tied together their main mystery much stronger than Disco and the writing in Zero Parades' second half is so far very strong. So many of the side quests seem to tie in to the main quest in ways I didn't expect. I love when games do that. Really enjoying this one so far.

Guy.....literally on my list to try today too XD. Cars 2 I'm saving for once of those days, 3 honestly was great until it abruptly wasn't, but then there's also Assetto argument.

Project Cars 2 is great for some classic Formula One fun. i love the realistic damage the game has.

I've told you! Dawnwalker! why do you keep asking me? it's like you never learn!

I've also started playing this game: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/9082/
as SMB3 is one of my personal classics, I'm enjoying this a lot. It's very confusing but most of the levels can be fun
I’m told that it’s basically Witcher 3, but sucks. Is that correct (:creep:)? Jokes aside, it looks interesting, it’s on my radar.

Me, I just finished Sinking City 1 & 2, the second being exceptionally good and worth recommending. The first is more of a Sherlock Holmes affair which is a very acquired taste since they’re quite janky games, but the sequel is more like Resident Evil 2. Absolute master class in atmosphere that elevates Frogwares into the big leagues in my opinion.

Currently, and uncharacteristically, playing Fortnite with the missus - there’s a gaming-themed event and naturally we had to get the Sonic bundles to go fast and dunk on scrubs.

Love this new series Scarelt, with gaming news not being most exciting these past few years (at least for me) I think this is best thing to focus on. And besides I have been curious about what everyone else plays here anyway so this is perfect.

This past month I've been blasting through telltales walking dead definitive series, completed first 3 seasons + DLCs and started playing final season yesterday. First season is very good, second is good, third is meh and DLCs also meh, but the reason why this series hold very special place in my heart is all because of final season, in fact I loved it so much back in the day that yesterday around in the middle of first episode I stood in game looking up at pink skies and just staring, listening to soundtrack in background.

Hype train was deserved back in the day when first season came out, over the years with subsequent entries I liked it less and less and to have final season that was masterpiece in every way was something I never expected, but it was the perfect closure I didn't know I needed. Around that time I had been grown apathetic towards new shows and games, I was not getting that spark of excitement towards anything like when I was a kid, fair to say final season is what reignited my enthusiasm in gaming at time. It was also sort of time capsule in late 2019 because I watched playthrough on Pewdiepie channel (my 3rd gen i3 obivously couldn't run the game) like good old days.

I got that version of The Walking Dead an absolute age ago and never got around to it. Does the game tell the complete story? Like is it a complete replacement for the comics or TV series? It's another thing that's been on my list for far too long lol

Oh no, it is not a replacement for neither comic or TV series. While it does have few characters and locations from comic books, ultimately it just tells it's own unique story.
