The Minish Cap gets a native 3DS port with dual/widescreen support

Thanks to the recent decomplication efforts; The Minish Cap 3DS brings the Game Boy Advance classic Zelda title to your 3DS.

The port takes full advantage of the 3DS (sans 3D) and offers various display and layout options including widescreen , stretched and original aspect ratios with the bottom screen containing a map and dungeon/current quest information. New 3DS is also supported with several further enhancements such as improved performance, multi-core rendering and an optional C-Stick turbo mode for fastforwarding gameplay.

The Minish Cap 3DS also includes support for the Project Picori Randomizer, with separate save data for normal and randomized playthroughs.

As with similar fan-made ports like this, no ROM or copyrighted assets are included with the project. Players must provide their own legally obtained copy of the game.

Whenever I saw him post on reddit, he does mention the use of Claude. To what extent, I couldn't really find out, since every time I try to look at commits made by 'it', it shows as a blank.........
Aw shucks... I missed when these stuff were to get announced and no AI would be used in projects like these.

You and me both man..... The guy seems nice however. Responds to issues pretty fast and fixes problems as they come up. While, I didn't play much of any of the ports he made (not yet anyway, kinda busy with my school work and Bravely Default atm), for what little I did play, they seemed fine.

All of them are using other projects as a base, that are pretty rock solid, so outside some bugs with extracting assets (which did occur with his Link to the Past port), and some other minor things, there isn't much for "AI" to even fuck up tbh.

It seems to be that it's been used at some points, and the developer has experience with coding. When it comes to that, and using AI, then that's when its okay. Most of the other ones I see are made by people who have little to no experience working with what they're working with.

Yea, there is a buuuuuuuuunch of literal slop, that is completely broken as a whole. Someone did ask how much AI was used in his Link to the Past port, but that was left unanswered, so it is hard to really tell how much 'assistance' did he take with the project.

Outside Nintendo 3DS dual-screen port of Zelda3, built with help from Codex. on the github page, there is not much else.

You had them in the first half.
I know, wishful thinking.

I agree with your point about bringing retro titles back with some tweaks. that would be cool to see officially from them. but you could see why they'd never create a 3ds version of Minish Cap in 2026 though it does seem exactly like the sort of thing Nintendo would have done in 2013.

Nintendo re-releases on newer hardware are hit or miss. the re-releases of NES games to GBA did not age well, changing the core mechanics of games like Super Mario Bros 2 for example.

I appreciate that we have a great modder community to make this happen though.

Dual screen games on Switch is weird to me.. using the single screen with 2 views in it upsets my OCD. lol

PS. I think adding widescreen to some games change the original experience (eg, Super Mario World widescreen) but it's cool to mess around with.
Im not specifically meaning this port. Just giving us legacy titles with updated features, in general. Nintendo giving us half assed emulation that's locked behind a pay wall is awful.

I really can't understand the thought process of people working on decomp ports: "Let's implement N additional features that will definitely bring uncountable bugs BEFORE having the game working 1:1 as the original version."
This applies to absolutely ALL decomp ports.

Sounds like a good reason to fire up my 3DS for the first time in a few years, and I guarantee the battery is still full.
