Was hoping to get some recommendations on a MAME emulator and how to get it up and running. I've got SDLMame and RetroArch but I'm having trouble getting either to locate ROMs either in my SD card or USB Drive. Any help configuring things would be appreciated. If you guys could recommend particular light games that you like and know work well that would be even more awesome. Yesterday I basically just downloaded every ROM (and CHD file) from this top 15 list http://www.cbr.com/gun-it-the-best-light-gun-arcade-games-ranked/

I don't know if I need other bios files added to run them and I don't know if the Wii can handle some of the games with huge CHD files like Carnevil or Star Trek Voyager.

Thanks for the help!

There are many wothwhile lightgun games on the Wii, official releases or even retro compilations. Dozens, in fact, it should cover a lot. Gunblade, HotD 2&3, Ghost Squetc.Wild West Guns, Reload, the two R.E. games ets etc. Lots of good stuff.

As for MAME stuff, only SDLMame has IR support and i have managed to get Duckhunt and other NES arcade games to work on it. Retroarch FBa core supports many more but it does not recognize IR input so... Also, Lone Wolf by Taito, a personal old favorite runs great on SDLMame. More than that,SNES9XGX, FCEU GX and Genesis Plus GX emus all support IR for those systems' lightgun games

I've actually been trying to get the IR working on my Wii in Mame/Retroarch for arcade games. Did you have to do any kind of setup? Was Lone Wolf the only arcade rom you got to work? I've tried Terminator 2 and a few others but no luck. Please help! Trying to get my virtual arcade set up and this would be so great!!

For anyone who sees this thread, this is no longer true: FBA2012, MAME Wii, MAME2003+ all have a couple of light gun games that they can play. I am still working through all of them, but try Zombie Raid on FBA2012 or Lethal Enforcers on MAME Wii (weirdly you have to use button 1 to fire, which I am trying to understand the complicated configuration to see if I can remap to the trigger. Beyond that lightgun games can be played for NES, SNES, Genesis and PS1 (The only way to play Time Crisis to my knowledge).

There are many more.

I am using WiiFlow and the WiiFlow plugins pack, unfortunately there is a somewhat steep slope in understanding what works for what and why. To begin your study the key is studying the .ini files for the emulator (plugin) in the Wiiflow plugins pack.

Good Luck

Hello.

This is my video. It is actually from 2024 but recently made public. I am working on many improvements to light gun performance including cores that are pre-set for lightguns.

I have recompiled Wiistation 3.2 and removed the green/purple Reticle/Crosshairs. I also fixed the screen size.

I also have compiled Z-GX into a custom Sega Saturn lightgun core with an actual settings menu with control mapping, Nunchuck support, FPS toggle, return to game & exit confirmation. For now it is 1 player - all so I could play Virtua Cop With a lightgun. Improvements are still coming to this including to the graphics rendering.

Recently, I started a project -
I call it WiiAim (Wii Aim) -

I have created a custom core of MAME 2003 Midway (WiiAim_T2_Arcade) with default light gun controls. The only game it launches is T2. I made this core Wiiflow compatible through multiple revisions to stop the stack dumps when exiting the game back to Wiiflow & created a plugin for it. This took at least 50 tests to feel confident. Final revision is needed and slight screen centering adjustment.

I have fixed the controls for FBA 2012 lightgun core (WiiAim_FBA2012) & set Wii Remote (pistol) controls & Wii Remote/Nunchuck (shotgun) controls as default. I have fixed the screen sizing to fill the screen & not display thin black bars on the side. I removed the green & pink Reticle. I don't like using crosshairs.

After more testing, I would like to share these things with the community but don't know the process and don't want to make anyone upset for working on their project or anything. I've been lurking in the scene for a long time.

I have many more planned projects. You can check out my YouTube channel to see my Wii in action.

Thank you to all that have done the work to keep the Wii scene alive. This console is the best.

This is an old download I created in 2022. It has the mame-wii you need - already configured. Use the read me - it's long but has instructions. It also has an older version of Wiistation that supports light guns.

Good luck if you choose to do this. I am unable to provide support.
