Gaming Crisis core questions

Hey,

Ever since I installed Crisis Core on my 3.90-M33 PSP slim, some movie sequences lag, horribly. The intro sequence always lags, while some others lag at specific times. I've increased the processor speed to 333 and the same with the UMD speed. Everything else in CC works perfectly, but the movies lag... It's kinda annoying.

I'm beginning to think this is either:
1) A shoddy memory stick
2) Streaming issues (which we could also see on the Xbox for some games that ran from the harddrive where sound could be out of sync or cutscenes lag. Bard's tale anyone?)

So, what I wanted to ask is: is there anyone else with Crisis Core installed on their memory stick that has NO lag in movie sequences? If there is someone with NO lag at all, please let me know what CFW you are using and what kind of memory stick you are running CC off.

3.90-M33 PSP phat. 4GB Sony MS Pro Duo. No issues with movies lagging.

I actually had a chance to try CC on a buddy's PSP from UMD. I forgot how SLOW those things are!

It'll be your memory stick, bro.

Lot of bad ones out there.

You could try re-formatting it, using the PSP menu system ... after copying off anything you wanted to keep on to your PC, of course.

Yeah, I'm suspecting memory stick too. Although, it's a genuine (store bought) SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo (not a UltraII / III, though) and Blackspeed reported a very nice read rate (16MB/s, compared to 10MB/s for a Sony MS). But perhaps there's more to it than just the "raw" reading speed, as people say that the results from Blackspeed should be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm off now to buy myself a SanDisk UltraII or III (depending on the price) and doing the whole reformat in PSP/copy old data dance, to see if I get any improvements. I'm gonna need two 4Gb memory cards anyway (one for video/audio and one for games).

Ok, update. Apparently it has nothing to do with the memory card. In fact, the clerk at the store I was buying my memory stick from, told me that the PSP treats both the UltraII, Sony original and SanDisk normal exactly the same. All have MagicGate and the "same" reading speed (original Sony is slightly slower at reading, but still _much_ faster than a UMD disk, so you should never have problems). Writing speed differs from the Ultra variants though (as they are slightly faster). However, writing speed is not interesting for me, as Crisis Core only reads from the memory stick.

I'm gonna try some tips when I get back home. Will format the memory stick through the PSP and then place ONLY CC on it, to see what happens. If that doesn't work I'll try formatting to FAT16. If that doesn't work I'm gonna try my MS in some friends' PSPs. I'll also try their MS in my PSP.

For all I know, I could have gotten a slightly defective MS.

Just because you bought it in a store, doesn't mean it's not a clone.

My clone one works quite good with no lagging in cc.
I remember paying 20euro for a 4gb pro duo sony.
The first one i had to pay for 2gb sandisk 120euro.

I had the same exact issue, the solution is to format to fat 16. Once i did that lagging decrease substantially and there was no lag in ff7 cc.

Feels odd if a truly huge retailer chain would have clones of known brands. In fact, that'd be a huge scandal if it got out. This is why I assume it's not a clone. Also, as I mentioned the Blackspeed test gave me awesome reading results.

So, it might just be that I need a reformat. In reality, I haven't formatted my MS at all. The _only_ time I did it was when I created the pandora memory card. Since then; nothing. Perhaps that's what's missing?

Update, the reformat worked. This came as a surprise since memory sticks are solid state disks (e.g. a reformat only resets the FAT table) so I didn't think anything would happen. However, it seems like my FAT table was scrambled and this MIGHT have to do with the method I used to create my pandora magic stick... So as a warning to you guys, if you make a magic stick, format it after you're done and before you start using it for games.
