Images for the rumoured Zelda-themed limited edition Switch 2 for The Legend of Zelda's 40th Anniversary have started to leak online.

The leak shows only the cardboard box that holds the actual console, not the console itself, but it gives a good glimpse at what the console and its controller would look like. The console itself has Joycons with special green and golden colouring to them, with the right Joycon showing some green motifs, and the left Joycon having the classic Hylian symbol on its lower left corner. The Dock for the Switch 2 also showcases a special design, with a big Triforce showing on the front of it, as well as some motif designs around it to accompany the Triforce.

As for the controller, it follows a similar motif design to that seen on the Switch 2's Dock, with several Triforce designs on its front.
It's still unknown when exactly whe limited edition console will become available, but given how the console has already leaked, it's likely that the announcement will come in the upcoming days.

Cute but i'll still wait for an OLED version. The current screen sucks, compared to my Switch OLED screen.
Hell, it sucks even compared to LCD Switch 1 models. I think the OLED model will barely move the needle on the abysmal battery life too. They might as well have just made it a home console and put in a little extra horsepower instead of a screen.

An OLED model will likely come after a Lite model launch. A revised model with an OLED maybe in 3 years. Launching an OLED model so soon would likely undermine the LCD since most would push to OLED.

The good news, they are not alone working on one since RR are also on it as far as I can tell.

I don’t think anyone’s pointed out that graphic on the left side of the collapsed box. Looks like the back is removable, if I’m seeing it right? Is this a replaceable battery model?

I wonder if this will mean a new hardware revision or if it'll just be exactly the same but with stickers/different paint essentially
The only thing I think I've heard is that the battery or something might be different in some of the newer Switch 2 models for specific markets. That's the only difference in hardware that I know of. Other than that, it should be pretty much the same.

As long as it's better than the OLED backplate quality, it'll be good. I've seen on Reddit that someone managed to remove the markings with the alcohol or something, that's really not good at all. I'm afraid of even touching mine without the protective case around it.

I mean, alcohol or nail polish can remove/damage items so that's not surprising.

I just bought S2 last week… Ninty knows when to release new console. I think that I will pass on console (even if it will not be stolen by scalpers), and be satisfied just with anni pro controler :).

The current screen sucks, compared to my Gameboy Color screen. The Switch 2 LCD has a pixel response time that's so low, the old "flicker sprites or backgrounds to simulate transparency effects" works again, just like on the original Gameboy :D

When has a special edition console ever been a new revision?

New revisions are always base models first

Beyond that, with the prices of components it would not be a good business decision right now

It could be the version already adapted to the EU with the more accessible battery, since those will start to be rolled out in the EU next month and this will probably be released later in the year (I'm guessing before Christmas).
Granted, not a major revision since it only affects the EU, but a revision all the same.

According to rumours an OLED version will not enter production until late 2027 at the earliest.

True but I doubt that e.g. Pro controller would suffer the same fate. Here's the image from Reddit that I saw few years ago.

It would be good if they etched it into the backplate or at least used something that's a bit more sticky. And yeah, the owner used rubbing alcohol. :/

The OLED model still has a long way since Nintendo isn't in the rush getting it out, though I believe the Lite model will come sooner than most people anticipate. I think EU regulatory mandates may have play a role in this since the OG Lite is getting phased out in Europe by early next year which could instantly translate to 25% revenue loss in this segment if went unchecked.

I've done something similar on the back of a laptop which I regret. Lesson learned.
