Ocarina of Time 3D gets huge mod to enable single-screen play

Ocarina of Time is back in style as the upcoming Switch 2 remake looms on the horizon. But what's a fan of the game to do over the next few months? If you've been fancying a replay of the landmark title and have been going between which version to pick up, this new mod might just turn you towards the 3DS version. Released a few days ago, the Single Screen Experience mod does what it says on the tin, migrating the game's UI to the top screen.

Though this mod is aimed at those playing via emulation, with it making the game much more approachable on more traditional handhelds, it is entirely compatible with original hardware. On top of the UI elements being moved to the top screen, the mod also makes use of the D-Pad, ZL, and ZR buttons for item mapping. Not to mention enabling the right stick for a free camera much like what we saw in Majora's Mask 3D.

Those interested in trying the mod for themselves can find it linked below.

Sweet. Not for me as I would prefer to play it in original resolution, and I have no 3D screens other than the one on the (dead) 3DS anyway.

But I know that OoT3D is a really good remaster, and the dual-screen aspect made emulating it annoying, so this is a great mod!

I can use a texture pack to get the upgraded graphics on the N64 version, but one thing that is still much better on the 3DS version is the framerate.

The one thing that interests me the most about this hack is the right stick support.

I wonder if there's a way to revert/turn off the UI changes to still play it with both screens but with the improved controls on original hardware or a dual screen handheld.
Would be interested to have it on my Ayn Thor if that's a possibility.
Or if the control mod gets released separately, that would be fine too.

Will a texture pack really do much? Or does it replace 3d models too?

Right stick camera should be available standalone. I know it's in the rando at least so that's one guaranteed route. You can setup the rando to just add quality of life features (skip cutscenes, muted Navi, C stick camera etc) without actually randomising anything if you just want a nicer way to play OoT3D.

I would imagine the mod for just the camera is out there somewhere though.
