What is Mario Kart DS ARM9 Editor?

The Mario Kart DS ARM9 Editor is a cross-platform utility coded in .NET 10.0 C# designed to simplify the editing of the ARM9 file in Mario Kart DS. This tool allows users to make various modifications to the game’s core files with ease.

What can it do?
  • Modify referenced music tracks for courses and menus
  • Adjust course weather settings (e.g., making Figure-8 Circuit rainy)
  • Change the names of referenced kart models and shadow models
  • Edit the referenced .CARC file names for courses
  • Alter the file names for character models
  • Modify referenced emblem file names
  • Export and import saved changes
  • Modify the amount of selectable courses online and what courses are selectable

And more features are coming soon!

What can you achieve with this tool?
  • Standardize all karts to the default kart model.
  • Replace all menu music with the settings theme.
  • Customize weather effects on specific courses.
  • Rename referenced files to streamline ROM hacking and editing.
  • Access and play otherwise inaccessible courses without the need for Action Replay codes.
  • Play unselectable courses online.

Where can I download it?

You can download the Mario Kart DS ARM9 Editor here:
https://github.com/NitroShellMKDS/MKDS-ARM9-Editor
or here:

How do I use it?

Using the editor is straightforward:
1. Extract the ARM9 code file from your Mario Kart DS ROM.
2. Open the ARM9 file in the editor and make your desired changes.
3. Save your modifications and reinsert the ARM9 file back into the ROM.

For experienced users who already have their ARM9 file in a project folder, simply open the file, make your changes, and repackage it using tools like Mario Kart Toolbox.

This tool is perfect for both casual tweaks and advanced ROM hacking projects!

Now introducing Mario Kart DS ARM9 Editor version 1.2!
This update is the next leap forward since update 1.1!

This update includes the leap from .NET 6.0 to .NET 9.0 with a full rewritten codebase for smaller more optimized file size! This does mean you’ll have to install the .NET 9.0 runtime to run it.

This update also adds patches with only 1 patch at this time.

What are patches?
Patches allow you to edit more things after patching your ARM9 code, the only patch available at this time is the editable online course patch that allows you to edit the number of courses that you can pick online and edit the selection of courses, you can choose from 1 to 20 slots online with this patch! Its very simple and it even works with other code mods and patches!

This update also includes the ability to check for updates and update the program when new updates are available.

I appreciate all the support and here’s to a new year of hacking after 9 months of no updates!

An all-new version is out now! Version 1.3!
Pick it up at Github or GBATemp
Here is the changelog:
Additions:
  • Cross-Platform Support! (Except MacOS because I need a Mac to sign the binaries)
  • Ability to export and import changes
Removals:
  • Checking and updating the application (It was flawed before I might add it back later)
  • Patches (I could swear the online course patch worked before but it seems like it doesn't, just use a ASM hack if you really want that)
Other Changes:
  • Updated from .NET 9 to .NET 10
  • Moved from WinForms to Avalonia UI
  • Refactored and optimized the code to the maximum that it's ever been!
