Good evening everyone.
I'm asking for help from you experts as I can't launch pfbneo on firmware 21.
In previous versions (fw 17, 18, 19) everything worked fine.
Could you help me?

i try now. thx bro

Excuse my ignorance.
I take the nro file, put it in the switch folder, go to album, click on the pfbneo icon, and everything crashes.
On older firmware, I remember installing an nsp or xci file, then copying the contents of the file archive (roms, bios, etc.) to the pfbneo folder (still in switch).
I can't find the file to install.
I'm asking for help again.

I have Fw 20.05, no 21.

Don't use applet mode with this kind of (heavy) homebrew. You must launch it in override mode (keep R then launch any installed game).

you can also use a forwarder(*) (this is probably what you installed in the past) or make yours here

(*) if you really have a forwarder, you just have to overwrite the nro it is supposed to launch. But you must remember/know where the forwarder is pointing at (can be "switch\pfbneo.nro", "switch\pfbneo\pfbneo.nro" or maybe switch\pfba.nro or switch\pfba\pfba.nro, as fbneo was pfba before the "Barry Harris drama")

As you may have understood, make your own forwarder :moogle:
you can make it in less than 10 seconds (if you have an old one, you can also extract its icon to make something nice → EDIT : you can provide nro to the website, so it will use the official icon...didn't know that)

ps : even if you're on 20.5.0, if you're using atmosphere 1.10.1 with hbmenu 3.6.1, you must use pfbneo ≥ 7.0

Thanks, but I simply overwrote the nro file and am getting atmosphere crashes.
Now I'd like to try your instructions, but I'm not entirely clear because I've never done it.
If you could walk me through it step by step, I'd be grateful.

first, try to launch hbmenu in FULL RAM mode (keep R and launch any game), to confirm fbneo 7.1 works as intended.

if it works, it means applet mode is the culprit, and using a forwarder will be your graal. go to nsp-forwarder.n8.io then :
  1. click on the empty icon and point to fbneo.nro so it can extract the official icon
  2. App Title: FBNeo or Final Burn Neo or anything you want
  3. Publisher: Cpasjuste
  4. NRO path: switch/fbneo.nro or switch/fbneo/fbneo.nro (or any path you want !)
  5. Prod.keys : your prod.keys file, which is in your switch folder (you must have used lockpick_rcm.bin before)...or search for this file on internet (but don't ask here)
  6. Click "Generate NSP"
Bravo ! you have done your first forwarder. Install this NSP with your NSP manager (DBI, Goldleaf, tinfoil, etc.).

So, let's start with the fact that I use Hats by sthetix.
So, if I go to Album, I get directly to HBmenu.
If I press and hold "R" and start Pfbneo, I always get a crash.
Now, should I always try the forwarder method?

work!
forwarder mode, it's work!
Thx!

glad to see you got it working.

BTW, if I specifically told you to LAUNCH A GAME (Not album, not anything else) with R pressed, this was for a good reason. This is the only way to gain FULL RAM mode (without installing a forwarder, as it's the same as overriding a game)

of course launching album with R does nothing more that launching hbmenu in applet mode...because Album IS an applet, so overriding it gives you the same power as an applet (less RAM, less privileges, crash with heavy homebrews like fbneo)

IMO this has nothing to do with firmware 21.x.x
since revision 7.0, pfbneo has been updated to the latest fbneo, and we can read a special note from pEMU's github :

Notes (pfbneo)

  • Since version 7.0, "gamelist.xml" files are not included anymore in the binaries. The "gamelist.xml" file provide information about each game (name, genre, release date, if the game is a clone, etc...). If you do not provide your own "gamelist.xml" in each pfbneo rom folder, you will miss some information. If you do not have them, they can be created with a tool like Skraper (or my own command line one sscrap). Else you can download them from the repository history and put them in the corresponding rom folder (and rename them to "gamelist.xml").

So maybe you're missing that gamelist.xml, no ?

(or it can be, again, some changes in the driver list...with arcade games, they like to change names, extensions, etc., especially with neogeo dumps  )

Good morning, I renew the request, firmware 22.5.
I install pfbneo but I don't know where to insert the roms.
Does anyone help me?
