Xbox to increase in price again in August, Series S set to hit $500

xbax.png

Remember when you could get an Xbox Series S for $300? Those were the days. Microsoft has today announced the latest in their console price hikes, seeing their once-affordable system now exceed what the more powerful Series X cost at launch. Set to come into effect on the first of August, you can find an overview of the increases below:
  • Xbox Series S (512GB): $399 ➜ $499 (25% Increase)
  • Xbox Series S (1TB): $449 ➜ $599 (33% Increase)
  • Xbox Series X (1TB Digital): $599 ➜ $749 (25% Increase)
  • Xbox Series X (1TB): $649 ➜ $799 (23% Increase)
In their press release, Microsoft shine a light on the state of the industry, noting that games consoles are being hit particularly hard on the back of them typically being sold at a loss out of the gate. With less headroom to eat costs, they're inevitably passed onto consumers. With Microsoft expecting another doubling of storage and memory prices by fall of 2027, future price increases also seem likely.

OMG! Pure greediness is so ignorant, Marc. Their costs just went up, and you want them to not reflect that in the price? EVERYONE'S costs have gone up, some dramatically. And it's "greedy" for a for-profit company to raise prices in light of that? Grow up. You're too old to act like an entitled gamerboy.
i totally agree, but at the same time all these companies are the ones investing heavily into AI which is the main cause of this whole thing

Yep, there's not a single profitable AI model out there, and yet they think it'll somehow be more profitable than the gaming industry as a whole within a few years. Way more money than sense.

Is Xbox TRYING to fail? There was never a point in owning one of these as it lacks so many games PS/Switch have and ALL of its games can already be played on a PC.

Good way to finally kill Xbox. Great work Microslop (/s)

It saddens me because i've invested in this platform since the beginning and now i see i'm going to loose all the titles i got in digital (yes they were bought with discounts but i still paid money for them).

I freaking hate the LLM/DL hype !!! So far very little good came from this >:(

I seriously think theres a guy trying to sabotage the xbox brand at microsoft. This 4d chess wannabee move (Nobody buys xboxes, lets up the price, people will think it worth it,apple is successful with it) bullshit is not gonna work.
Or maybe they are gonna launch alot of exclusives since you know they have alot of new studios.

The fact of the matter is that Xbox hasn't been profitable in a long, long time. It's been mismanaged since the announcement of Xbox One, and even then it was obvious Microsoft wasn't as much interested in the gaming side of things as they were in pushing a general purpose entertainment box to get as many people as possible into their ecosystem. That was the beginning of the end, and AI is likely to be the final nail in the coffin.

You can hike and increase prices as much as they want but it will eventually reach a breaking point where the entire system collapses because it becomes unsustainable. Just waiting for the AI bros to be the first to get slapped and go bankrupt.

This just feels like "self sabotage" or trolling or both. If they wanted to lessen the sticker shock, at least include like a 200 dollar Xbox gift card with the damn console. lol

Series X was better ok several ways, I've found the OS to be very buggy (very), although many bugs were eventually fixed after years of not

The one thing Microsoft/Xbox really dropped the ball with was the proprietary storage, the naming, a few others.

Upper management like to push the narrative that the previous management are responsible for all past, current and future failings

Microsoft and Xbox are an embarrassing mess. I did quite like the Xbox One console, the couple of years Microsoft/Xbox were pretending they weren't toxic, criminal, corporate scum. They could only keep up the act for a short period though

These firms really should let us use our own RAM modules. Problem solved. I'm sure RAM eventually goes bad but I've yet to see it.

This is so damn crazy imho.
Ever since all hardware tech went from expensive to less expensive in its lifespan.
In most cases you would even get a slightly better hardware revision with more benefits for less money after a few years.

This is the first time in history (at least since I'm tracking it) where the opposite is the case.
Everything becomes more expensive without providing any more value to the customer or changing anything hardware-wise.
The Switch 2, the Steam Deck, the Xbox, Ayn Thor... it's crazy.

I get why they are doing it but it's arguably the worst time to be doing so when they are trying to reestablish the value of xbox as a console worth getting.

Exactly you can't have goodwill let's lower cost of Game Pass and than shortly after do this.
As a multibillion company take the loss you have in the current market on your hardware and get it back with software in the long run. And dont tell me they cant , they can, they just dont and wont.

But hey we are just people on the web ... what do we know right ...
