Hey everyone!
I finally found the right platform to release my SNES homebrew patches and games.
I used Canva before, but it was too slow and heavy for frequent updates. Now on Medium I can push new patches in real time, with release notes and instructions, simple and fast.

If you're into SNES homebrew, you're welcome! Feedback and testing are highly appreciated.

why do I need super mario world for a homebrew game called Turican that has nothing to do with super mario world. Why not just have a rom available of your homebrew instead of making people jump through hoops?

Seems really odd to me.

I get why it might seem odd, but there’s a simple reason:I can’t legally distribute a full ROM, even if the game I made has nothing to do with Super Mario World. The SMW ROM is copyrighted by Nintendo, and sharing it—modified or not—would be illegal.

That’s why the community uses IPS/BPS patches. A patch only contains my own changes, not any of Nintendo’s original data. You apply it to your own legally obtained copy of SMW, and that keeps everything above board.

So it’s not that my homebrew needs SMW to run. It’s just the only legal way to share the project without distributing copyrighted material.

Thats really cool but why not use github?
I use Medium because it’s simpler for what I’m doing.I’m not sharing source code — just patches, screenshots, and explanations — and Medium is better for that kind of presentation. GitHub is great for code, but it doesn’t really add anything for this project.

I actually think there's room for both. GitHub is great if you're maintaining source code, tracking issues, or accepting pull requests, but Medium works well as a dev blog where people can quickly see screenshots, changelogs, and download instructions without digging through a repository.

One thing that might work well is using Medium for announcements and documentation, then linking to GitHub (if you ever decide to use it) for version history and file hosting. That gives you the best of both worlds while keeping things easy for players who just want to grab the latest patch.
