This is a work-in-progress software clone of the Wii U gamepad. No warranty is provided and everything should be considered alpha at best.

Usage/Installing

Official builds are provided for all supported platforms on the Releases page. Most users are recommended to use these.

Distro-specific packages

Vanilla is also available in the package managers of certain Linux distributions.

Arch (AUR)

An Arch User Repository (AUR) package called vanilla-wiiu-git is available for easy installation on Arch Linux and derivatives. For more information, see the AUR page: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/vanilla-wiiu-git

What devices are supported?

There is also “chocolate” coming out soon

A completely separate project doing the same thing but with a dedicated esp32 or pi zero w

So that a pc isn’t needed like vanilla wants

So if i understand correctly, this isn't usable on Android yet, right?
There is a "pipe" function, you still needs a linux-host and a compatible wifi adapter for the dirty works.

My whole appeal of Wii U lately has been the Vanilla project, so I am excited for any news about it. I think the OP meant to link this video:

Also, with the technical explanations, it makes me wonder: would it be theoretically possible for an Aroma/Stroopwafel plugin to make the Wii U accept standard Wi-Fi connections on the dedicated 5 GHz chip, enabling hassle-free fake GamePad connections? Since both PPC and ARM can be controlled nowadays, it made me wonder.

Of course, it would be cool if GamePad CFW enabled the same vice versa, but I'm aware that real progress on the GamePad itself only started recently.

That's the opposite of what Vanilla does

I'd definitely love to give it a go too, don't get me wrong. I think the two projects would come a long way not just to open up the hardware, but offer possibilities like streaming Cemu directly to the GamePad (never mind, already experimented with!), or even to be used as a basis for Cemu client/server, enabling some other device to act as just the GamePad, rather than having to manually stream a separate screen to/from it.
