I just had some free time and i updated the Yoshi theme. I added the backgrounds in horizontal/vertical carousel and i changed the selected text color to black.
Yeah, yeah, i know i said i don´t gonna update the theme, but with the new updates for DS Style by Frankie, i was necesary.
Anyway i adjunt the resources for the new version if someone want to keep it updated for the new versions.
(Also, if someone want to design a text box for the theme, could be great!)

On my Omega DE I have a directory at the root called "Virtual Console" where I have the "Game boy", "Game Boy Color" and "Game Gear" directories. I wonder if we could have thumbnails for some specially named directory, to e.g. have the Virtual Console logo for the "Virtual Console" directory, and maybe the same for the console names.

I believe having that would make the DS style kernel blend even more with the late 2000s Nintendo esthetic, what do you think?

Nice! I'll check this out

That's a nice idea! I'll see what I can do, but no promises as there is a maximum size the kernel can be.

Version 6.6 Released

This update does not change how the kernel looks or behaves by default.

DS Style is now integrated with the Thumbnail Scraper.

You can now easily add artwork for:
  • Homebrew games
  • ROM hacks
  • Folders
  • Any missing game art
Homebrew games no longer need their header edited to display custom artwork. Which was previously the case for the Omega and Omega DE. Folders and ROM hacks can now have custom art.

Custom artwork is stored in the IMGS/CUSTOM and IMGS2/CUSTOM folders. Name the BMP file exactly after its matching ROM or folder, and DS Style will display it automatically (the scraper tool does all of this for you).

Compatible artwork can be added manually or created easily using DS Style Thumbnail Scraper.

Update: Support for custom art will be added to all files. The version number will not be updated, I will make a comment when this has been posted. This was an oversight.

The amount of polish we can gain from this feature, thanks so much! 🤩

Here are some more square custom directory thumbnails, I adjusted the pixel alignment the best I could to make them look sharp, and Iredid the Virtual Console one the same way. The logos likely will look better in 3:2 than 1:1, but it was time consuming to do that already. I probably won't post more thumbnails for the moment, maybe I'll share a more complete set later if I do one. 🙂

I very recently ordered EZ-Flash Omega DE and was sent the newest edition we've been hearing about, which unfortunately doesn't play nicely with this custom firmware, as it runs on a completely new kernel (the file name being ezbluekernel.bin ) :(

Very nice! If you do make a complete set please do upload it:)

This new cartridge is on my radar, unfortunately not much I can do until @EZ-Flash2 upload the source to their GitHub. If we can get as many people to reach out to them as possible, hopefully they'll do it and I'll port it. Probably not going to buy the cartridge myself, so I'll need others to test it for me.

Just refreshed the v6.6 download.

Custom artwork now supports all files and folders, so you can add artwork for emulated games, ROM hacks, homebrew, folders, or anything else you’d like to customise.

Anything that isn’t regular GBA artwork will go in the CUSTOM folder. Each CUSTOM folder supports up to 256 images due to GBA RAM limitations, which should be plenty.

I’ve kept this as v6.6 because it’s a small correction to the new custom artwork feature rather than a separate feature release.
