Am I really the only one who would take longer boot/load times...

...if we meant that we got a Switch 2 operating system that's as full-fledged as the 3DS or Wii U ones?

Hell, you cannot even create a Nintendo Account on the console. You have to own and use another device to open their website and register it over there. Nor can you edit its settings without usage of the website.

The eShop applet is just a wrapper that opens a website for the eShop. There's no actual eShop functionality in the OS itself.

You cannot set detailed parental controls without using a separate smartphone app. The OS only has support for basic settings.

And I can continue. Why does OS functionality have to be relegated towards web browsers and other devices just for a few seconds shorter boot time, when even the 3DS (with much weaker hardware) could handle it all in the actual OS? The booting was slower, sure, but the Switch 2 has much better hardware.

Nah, I refuse to believe that we can't have a little bit of sauce in the Switch 2 OS. The Gamecube had an iconic BIOS menu, doesn't take forever to load and the option to directly boot into the inserted disc for the even more restless people.
If Gamechat wouldn't eat up so much resources, then it would have more leg room for more fancier, user-friendlier and useful options.
I hated the Switch OS and moreso the Switch 2 OS.

You're on your own, there is nothing wrong with the super lean minimalist(visually) firmware of the NS2. I'd rather have 99% of the system resources go to a game than far less because someone needs eye candy and what not.

We saw what failed stupidity that did for Nintendo on the WiiU. It would take about 30seconds from the time you clicked the icon for SYSTEM tools to actually get in, and nearly as long to go each layer deeper into the system menu to where you wanted to change a feature. Why they felt that was acceptable to launch a console in that state says a lot, and even years into it, they got it down a lot but still waiting like 5-10 seconds per screen was disgusting all the same.

I think they learned their lesson that lean, speed, and easy to navigate wins over the I want more crowd. The menu is a tool, not a game and fluff party to enjoy, the game is what you're there for.

Since I don't use parental controls and play mostly physical games those things don't really matter to me. If they add more useful options to the OS, or make the main menu look better with themes, at the expense of maybe a couple extra seconds to boot games then sure, but I wouldn't sacrifice any more performance just for a prettier UI that I'm gonna be looking at for 30 seconds before choosing a game.

Well, if you can access a place like this.....

But seriously though, who would has internet access and NOT have the means to access websites including for making a Nintendo Account?

At the very least I hope Nintendo adds an option to switch to a different menu that actually has some soul in it. Given how well they treated the "Themes" option though, I really doubt it.

A lot more people than you think lol (mostly young children/teens.)

The Wii U had a bunch of complaints, but not once did I hear anyone complaining about its Home Menu and UI/UX design choices lol.

Not really? Do you think the Switch became one of their best selling consoles because of their Home Menu lol? Most people would just take whatever is given to them in regards to a Home Menu, and Nintendo knows they didn't have to put much effort into it, which is why it currently is as it is. I'm 100% sure the "Themes" option was a fallback in case people complained about it, but since not that much people cared, it ended up going unused.

Even with kids, it would be in a household where "someone" can do what's needed. Teens will figure things out themselves.
This still takes longer compared to just being able to create it on the console directly. Honestly, I don't even think it should be a debate that an account MUST be able to be created on console if its required to access other services and features. If I was setting up my switch and account for the first time, I'd much rather do it all in the same place than having to go through the switch set up process, pull out my phone/laptop/pc/w/e, create an account there, then go back on the switch and sign in.

And those people are the ones not supposed to be creating their own nintendo account without parental supervision. If you are able to buy it, you have the resources to create an account online for it.
As stated above.

Technically, if you have the means to buy the system, then chances are, you have the means to make an online account without it.

Honestly though, is pulling out your phone for something done once per account that much of a hassle?

Yes. Basic functionality like user creation shouldn't really be put offsite.
You're not doing it multiple times a day, like folks tend to do for things when it comes to the internet, like accessing accounts they have set with Authenticators or 2FA.
