I recently got sata HDD and the Kaico adapter and set everything up and formatted it and whatnot, it works, I can browse the files on my laptop but for some reason I can't get the games to show up in opl despite having the right settings checked and I'm pretty much confused on what went wrong

1) What HDD is it?
2) Does it still power up when you turn on the PS2?
3) Does the HDD still appear in ule or wle?
4) What software did you use on the PC?

1) 500gb 7200rpm Seagate
2) I'm not sure what you mean by that
3) yes
4) disk management for creating a partition and formating

What settings did you use? E.g. was it gpt, exfat and default sector size.

For no. 2, I meant make sure the HDD is actually powering on when you turn the console on, although no 3 answers that.

Are you trying to auto start HDD support using the old format? Had the same issue, turns out OPL wasn't configured to auto start HDD support using APA, it was doing it for the old format.

Yeah, I was following what the guide said.

Maybe try clearing the drive, are you familiar with diskpart and the "clean" command?

They're using GPT/exfat.

Okay and? I had the same issue after preparing a 2TB HDD with PSBBN. Turns out OPL was trying to bring up the list of HDD games using the old PFS format, instead of the new GPT format.

You were asking about which format they were using, hence my response as they weren't using APA.

I am not.

I would check with emmanu888 first to make sure OPL is configured correctly.

I'm hesitant to recommend diskpart if you're not familiar to wipe the disk, IIRC though I think I formatted my HDD using wLE on the PS2 in the past, but you will need winhiip, etc. to install games and not just drag and drop like with exfat.

Yes I tried toggling this on and nothing changed unfortunately

Okay, I did just drag and drop my games after formatting via disk management. Nevertheless what is the recommended way of going about this given what I have, as from what I'm reading there are multiple methods being named and I'm not familiar with anything other than what I tried.

Here are some instructions I've found on how to use diskpart to wipe a drive:
https://support-en.sandisk.com/app/...an-a-drive-using-disk-part-command-on-windows

Be extremely careful.

After this I would format using winhiip and try the 'old' method i.e. APA/PFS and specialised software as opposed to the 'drag and drop' exfat provides.

The main reason I'm suggesting this method is just to see if we can get something working and make sure there isn't something else at play e.g. faulty/incompatible adaptor as these are the official kaico instructions.

Of course if anyone else provides alternatives, consider their suggestions.

Just had a thought, you made sure to confirm/save the changes and maybe try rebooting the console?

I highly recommend using the APA format instead of exFAT.

exFAT is a relatively new feature for OPL and the format is in general very unstable, prone to data corruption.

If you do go with APA, I recommend using HDL Batch Installer instead of WinHIIP because it's constantly updated.
https://github.com/israpps/HDL-Batch-installer/releases

And apparently WinHIIP has bugs. Specifically when formatting hard drives - so don't use that feature in it.

So I've read both responses and both are telling me to go with winHIIP and not to, unless there's something I've missed.

And what exactly is APA?

APA is the PS2's official partition table, as opposed to e.g. MBR/GPT. The file system is also known as PFS.

I'm only saying to use winhiip because of the official instructions, either way I'm just looking to see if it works with APA so go with what you're most comfortable with, just make sure it supports '48bit LBA'.

I'm using HDL batch install currently, and it's installing the games to the HDD, it may take a bit so I'd suggest watching the thread until I give an update for when it's done, though do let me know if there's anything else I should be aware of
