Thomas Massie, congressman from Kentucky, has lost his primary against his Trump backed Republican challenger.

Massie, known for pushing to release the Epstein files, supporting transparency in funding, questioning and exposing the Israel lobby (AIPAC) and his anti Iran war stance - has long been in Trump's cross hairs.

As one of only 2 Republicans to not back the "big beautiful bill" his days were seemingly numbered. In what was the most expensive primary election in world history, Massie lost to the opponent with bigger pockets.

The race was also married by deep fake ads produced by both sides. This belies a darker future for political maneuvering going into the decisive midterm elections this November.

I'm just happy I no longer have to hear about that fucker. I don't even live in his state, and kept hearing about him. Imo, the bigger news is that fucking Turtle finally got replaced.

Massie was one of the very few Republicans who actually stood for what the party claims to stand for

And one of the very few people to stand up against the Israel lobby

Is he a great guy, no. Is his loss bad for the country - absolutely yes

If you heard about him too much, and therefore hated him, then the 32 million dollar AIPAC propaganda worked on you. He was removed primarily due to him attempting to properly release the Epstein files, so yeah, screw him?

I had no idea that McConnell got replaced. Funny how that one got swept under the rug. You'd think it would be a bigger deal that the longest serving senate member was unceremoniously ousted.

So he voted with Trump about 90% of the time. But the straw that broke the camels back was uncovering pedophiles?

I honestly don't know much more about him, so what makes you hate him so much? He only came into my peripheral because he was working in a bi-partisan way to release the files. McConnell hate I TOTALLY understand though.

He supported Trump's campaign promises (anti war, pro releasing the files) therefore he was disloyal to Trump.

I don't really get why it's called "purged", but perhaps my English isn't that great.

Massie got outvoted, that's all. In a race among republicans, so...did anyone really expected different? I don't even agree with labeling him as "a critic", as he agreed with pretty much anything but the extremities.

When people are kicked out of a party, this can be called purging

In terms of being outvoted - that is the only mechanism to do this (more or less) in the US political system. It's not like UK where there is a whip to withdraw

In terms of how he was voted out - it was through machinations coming from the highest reaches of the Republican party - a concerted effort with collaborators and donors to spend as much money as possible to kick Massie out

This was the most expensive congressional primary election ever - why spend so much money to replace a Republican with a Republican if Massie supposedly supports Trump on everything?

Because he didn't - not even close. He had to paint himself like he did to get rural Kentucky people to like him - but in reality he has been against Trump repeatedly

On Epstein, on Iran, on the big beautiful bill. Name nearly every major thing going on right now, and Massie was a thorn in Trump's side

It cannot be stated enough just how pivotal Massie was in getting the Epstein files released and how Trump did not want that to happen

I understand, but again: is he kicked out of the party, or outvoted? I don't want to play devil's advocate, but there's a clear difference, no? :)

No dispute here.

Okay...I apologize. I must've had a wrong first impression on him, as I thought/presumed he was mostly silent on things. Sorry about that.

Anyone who has been critical of Trump within the Republican party, there has been a directed effort to have them removed either through voting or through them quitting.
- Many have been disgusted with what the administration has done, and they quit.
- Some have been harassed and their families threatened, and they quit.
- Others who have a spine and attempt to go against the most unpopular of Trump's ideas have millions of dollars thrown at propaganda campaigns to get them voted out of their primaries. With Massie, Israel openly put 32 million dollars against him. That's blatant foreign interference, but it's legal in the US.

It's the MAGA way. The only people who remain are the people who vote with Trump 100% of the time, and that is unhealthy for the checks and balances that are meant to be in place for the US to properly function.

Imagine seeing the dumpster fire of the current GOP and deciding the best way to deal with that is more gasoline
In their mind they're doing what they can to have a hive mind, which is more orderly. Massie was the gasoline spreading the Epstein fire. Can't have THAT coming to light, can they?
