Sony announces PlayStation Plus price increase for new customers starting May 20

Earlier this year, Sony announced major price increases for the PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal. Now the company is raising prices again, this time for PlayStation Plus.

Sony says that starting May 20, 2026, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers in select regions will increase due to “ongoing market conditions.” According to the official announcement, prices will now start at $10.99 / €9.99 / £7.99 for a 1-month subscription and $27.99 / €27.99 / £21.99 for a 3-month subscription.

In the United States, that means the current PlayStation Plus Essential pricing of $9.99 for 1 month and $24.99 for 3 months is set to increase to $10.99 and $27.99 respectively.

It also appears for now that 12-month memberships are not being affected by this particular increase. And current subscribers will be able to keep their current pricing unless they let their subscription lapse or change tiers (except in Turkey and India).

Not even remotely close to happening.

Apart from that, Days of Play is supposedly happening this month so a chance for people to get an annual sub at a discounted price, instead of a monthly sub at the new higher prices.

Edit: @BlusterBong Can't see anything you have to say but I can see your reactions. I just wanted to say thanks for the continual increases to my reaction score and for letting me live rent free in your head for a grip now.

The concord,Fairgame and Marathon games tax. Those 3 game failures for the price increase of all the hardware&suscriptions from Sony. Thanks sony i will avoid it to pay it.
Don't forget the eventual single party game tax if they end up flopping too, and boy whatever single player game sony has cooking up better bring hype to the brand or it's gonna get bad, fast.

I will never understand why people pay for online play on consoles. You are constantly paying for something with no guaranteed longevity, on PC at least online play is free for the vast majority of games and a good amount of them have huge player bases that last years or even decades.

And add one for the Sony price hike counter before second switch 2 price hike, ya'll

Also. unrelated because it's just too funny, they also just confirmed that they straight up gave up on porting thier single player offerings to PC, I wonder what device released by one of the other big three that made them do this.
I get the feeling both this and the price hike have to do with how 3rd-parties simply can't be console-exclusive to Playstation now. With them coming to Xbox and Nintendo, they lose on royalties for copies sold on their platform, so they've stopped their own games on PC to make their system more appealing, and then raise the price of the subscription to get that much more money.

You seriously think those games are the reason for the price increases?

You will never understand people spending their money on things they enjoy, instead of not spending it on things you don't enjoy? An awful lot of people, including myself, don't pay for online play. They pay to play the library of games included with the sub. My gaming backlog is so long it's vastly more cost effective for me to subscribe than to buy every game on that backlog. I also don't care about not owning any of them. I play mainly single player story driven games and rarely, if ever, go back to play the same game more than once.

Edit: @BlusterBong Thanks again. Free rent is amazing! All I have to do is comment and.... free rent! Whoop! Whoop!

Are you stupid or what? I said "people who pay for online play" when there is a clearly better (and free) option. I didn't say anything about the people who see value in the "extras" they include behind the online play paywall to try to justify it. I think it is totally predatory by the way, but if you like it I don't really care.

ARE YOU FUCKING STOOPID!!!!!" Nope. Bluster, is that you? LOL! Get tossed, loser. Try not to cry all day. Ignored... Bye now. lol

Post automatically merged:

companies really are the scum of the earth
you'd think 'market conditions' would have them trying to be babyfaces and cutting prices to look friendly to the consumers
nah, blood out of a stone it is
"As an MPR-AI, I am inclined to correct you. Companies are here to provide entertainment for all families. It is a wholehearted privilege to be allowed to be allowed to play Sony's quality products. I ask you to not misinform the masses, as it only spreads chaos and confusion."

Anyway, sorry if I sounded too harsh.
