I have priiloader and bootmii@IOS installed and don't use sd card menu and standby (still use WiiConnect24, I just press longer on the power button to make it go red LED)
My wii is 4 layer one but I still don't use standby to increase it's lifespan.
I can't launch games from usb loader gx from a usb drive because I don't have a usb hard drive, although my wii disc drive is doing weird noises when reading data and it is getting more and more often, never got any read errors.

Any more things I can do?

You don't need to hold Power, it's enough to disable "Standby Connection" in settings, that way WC24 doesn't keep the console running during standby. It's mainly an issue with the first Wii models, but it's not a risk worth taking regardless.

Of course, check if you still have your NAND backup, and if in doubt, make another.

You don't need a USB HDD, you can use an SD card instead. I still don't definitively know whether that causes stability issues or not, but it's worth a try. I think it should work fine, it's just that I had a myriad of issues in the past, unlikely to be related to how games were being loaded.

It's also possible to just use a flash drive, but it's harder to know how durable they are as the specifications on the packaging is usually scarce compared to SD cards. I'm not saying you should avoid using a flash drive, but do keep that in mind if you want to go that route.

The forecast and news channel will just pop an error if standby is disabled, there is a priiloader setting but I am used to hold down the power button.
I am afraid using sd cards because I don't them do die out. EmuNands are slow on them too and robably also are bad for the sd card.

There are multiple tiers of SD cards, some rated for higher durability than others. Also, writes create more wear than reads, and to my knowledge, since Wii only really writes saves to internal storage (and doesn't do it particularly often), I wouldn't be very concerned using even a lower tier card.

Reliability has come a long way during the years, cards generally suck much less nowadays.

blow dust out, good ventilation, dont set it in hot direct sunlight (at least not while also playing), disc drive components lasts longer with system horizontal.
Wii is not particularly bad on lifespan/durability naturally.

That's normal for any disc drive, the average problem regarding noisy drive is dust and dry lubricant. If you want to fix it, you only need to tear down the drive unit and clean it, then put new lubricant for plastic gears and the lens rail. This is a normal maintenance for any disc drive, I do it once every three years for my Wii and PSone. since I used them very often.
