I have been trying to run Linux on my DS via DSLinux. From what I have read, due to memory limitations, the DS will experience regular crashes on DSLinux without the Memory Expansion Pak that comes with the Nintendo DS web browser.

Therefore, I ordered a copy of the DS web browser that comes with the Memory Expansion Pak. When running the browser from the official cartridge, it "works" (many websites don't work as the browser is so old, and I have to use a mobile hotspot with no security, but the browser runs). However, when I ran DSLinux from the Ace Wood R4 launcher on my flashcart, it still says in the bootlog "Extra RAM NOT detected! You may experience crashes due to lack of memory".

This led to me developing the theory that it is the Ace Wood R4 firmware, not Linux, that is at fault. So, I decided to copy the web browser ROM to my flashcart and try running it from Ace Wood R4. Just as I expected, an error message appeared saying "Memory Expansion Required" indicating the DS does not detect the Memory Expansion Pak.

Is there any way to resolve this? If so, how?

A bug with the Ace3DS+ and X means that they do not detect a slot 2 expansion pack until you boot a retail game and soft reset back to Wood R4, which after that, if you run DSLinux, it will now detect the RAM expansion.

You could try Pico-Launcher instead of Wood R4 to see if it still occurs but I think its a bug in the hardware of the Ace3DS.

Is there any alternative flashcart you could recommend me that doesn't have this issue?

Preferably one that does not cost too much to ship to the UK.

Sure, the DSpico. Its abour £10-ish with free shipping from Aliexpress from the ChisFamily store, its the new DS flashcart most people are using right now and is getting active updates right now.

This page has some buying links:
