Probably for tax purposes, because a live + CG show costs heaps more to lose against lack of profit than a purely CG show. I will also die on the hill that Rosario was miscast for live snips given her facial bone structure, whereas in (of all things Kenobi) they cast CW snips perfectly...... Like bruh, you have virtually unlimited funds and access to your entire source and then you don't perfectly nail your hires.

So, thanks for the recommendation, it wasn't a waste of time. As far as Filoni's (self-)fangasms go, it's better than Rebels - although I wonder if the best ten Rebels episodes vs this would be different. It's got the usual show don't tell fails, stock characters, contrived plotting, and perhaps the only dialogue writer even less gifted than Lucas (hired for a reason?). Fewer girlboss characters than usual though, a small glimmer of improvement from Filoni.

I liked the reptile mob boss for desperately needed comedy, and Maul's droid, who was easily the most well-adjusted character. Everyone else was chum.

I disagree with the thesis of this thread though. It's true that a fully CG show built on an existing engine is much much cheaper than live action, especially for action-heavy stories like this one. But the best Star Wars media in the history of the franchise isn't an explosion a minute, and the space battles would be made in CG anyway now.

An animated CG series is just a medium. Medium influences art/content but it's not definitive. I mean yeah, Filoni should keep using CG, if only to herd him toward more action and less dialogue. But as ever, Star Wars should be in the hands of more talented creators. Being a fanboy isn't enough. And being a furry is definitely too much.

It's just tragic the Disney budgets and content volume weren't behind Star Wars when Tartakovsky was.

Tartakovsky only did hit roughly hour and a half worth for SW in his entire career. I will bet you anything that if the sale of the franchise had already taken place, they would've had someone else to do CW at the time. Hell, they have their evil power now and did not care to invite him back for a new show.

Oh, it's no secret what happened. Lucas wanted to do more after Clone Wars (beat the pants off of the rest of the prequel era), offered to hire Tartakovsky to work in house. Tartakovsky turned him down.

I love Star Wars, but Tartakovsky is way too talented to be Lucas's or (presumably ultimately) Disney's caged pet.

Lucas was still looking for someone to make (in his view)... lesser... Star Wars content and he ended up with Filoni, who most surprisingly was willing to be pulled away from his wolf plushies even for a moment.

Filoni was happy to build his reputation hanging off the pantleg of Lucas. His ideas need vetting from someone who can connect the dots and keep things grounded like Lucas was able to.

Filoni imo is a hack and once hes ran out of expanded universe and Lucas era ideas to steal from he will push Star Wars into an even worse state than it is now imo. The only thing filoni id decent at is providing fan fare nostalgia a return and driving content off nostalgia. Put him in an unscripted domain and we'd end up with something worse than the ST or the acolyte.

Filoni is better than half of the directors/showrunners Disney has scraped up for Star Wars. He's a fanboy, but that's better than being a hack and disliking Star Wars.

I don't think he's worse than Kennedy in his new role, for example.

I also don't think he cribs from the EU more than other Disney-era creators. If anything, I'm more off put by his insistence on and overexposure of his own characters and concepts. Wolves, time travel, and space Aladdin are all him. What he does (over)use from the EU is driven more by his proclivities too - like nightsisters. Do you honestly think you'd be less pleased with him if he was attempting direct EU adaptations? Even if they were mediocre adaptations, I imagine most Star Wars fans would be happier with that than what we've gotten from Disney.

I haven't thought about whether Filoni is comparatively better at adaptations but worse at original content. It's worth noting that a lot of commentators are bad at assessing this. My go to example is Game of Thrones. The showrunners are pilloried for the last seasons, and being supposedly deficient at original content. But they did a really really good job not just adapting existing material but modifying it in the earlier acclaimed seasons. The (non-book) scenes they added were excellent. The good-adapters bad-originators narrative doesn't fit there, even though it clearly attracts a lot of adherents.

I think my thesis is that Filoni is a fanboy, not an artist. Hack might be a bit too harsh in light of the existence of the sequel trilogy... he clearly could be worse. I agree that he's more deficient towards the big picture/mythic end of content creation, and needs adult supervision there.

personally i dont care what happens to the inquisitors. they are the worse part of disney era retcons of the established lore. merrok shouldnt even exist imo. the fact that vader is even fighting with them is complete blasphemy and goes against the concept of sith rule of the two. in the real star wars universe he would slash them down just like they were jedi because they pose a threat to the hierarchy he is apart of.

but to answer your questoin no we didnt see him die. he fell off just like palpatine did and somehow survived. we technically didnt even see lawson die which i think will be a part of season 2. disney never wants to show true deaths. like master daki we didnt even get to see him truely die. just the after shot of vader putting a hole through him which going off other disney content like obiwan or even maul himself getting sliced in half we dont even know if master daki is truly dead. most likely is but with disney plot armor
