Twilight Princess PC port "Dusk" gets its first release

It wasn't too long ago we saw our first glimpse of Courage Reborn, another Twilight Princess PC port in the works based on last year's decompilation efforts. With each port offering its own take on what an enhanced version of the game could look like, it's a fantastic time to be a fan of the game. And for those wanting to jump back into Hyrule right now, good news has arrived. Dusk has had its first release.

Available for Windows, Mac (ARM and x86), Linux (ARM and x86), Android, and iOS, you will struggle to not have a way to play. Featuring controller-friendly menus, you really just need an ISO for the game to get started. Once that's loaded in, you're able to pick whether you want the classic GameCube experience, or a bunch of new quality of life and graphical changes as your starting point. This port features a great variety of tweaks, most notably for me including an on the fly way to mirror the overworld. Those who grew up playing the Wii version will find this invaluable.

Along with the release, we also got a brief trailer covering a lot of what's included:

A lot of this was fairly well known, with the only major announcement coming at the end with the tease of a randomiser mode. Those interested in getting this setup for themselves can find the downloads below. As mentioned before you will need to supply your own ISO.

Dusk vs Courage Reborn New
A very good video for those curious what the difference is between Dusk and Courage Reborn.

tl;dr for those not wanting to watch is that the biggest difference is frame interpolation (Dusk) vs delta time (Courage Reborn) to achieve higher framerates. Dusk runs at 30fps internally to preserve the original feel and authenticity of Twilight Princess and uses funky maths and wizardry to interpolate frames for smoother visuals. It looks a lot better and a lot smoother than just running at 30fps, but due to the underlying logic being unchanged, the game won't feel any more responsive than OG Twilight Princess. Note frame interpolation is not frame generation, and that it's not an AI driven technique.

Delta time is a complete rework of how TP runs and allows the game logic to run at the same pace as your framerate. Where Dusk is running at 30 ticks per second under the hood, Courage Reborn's logic will match the frame rate. 60 frames = 60 ticks. This means your inputs will be processed more rapidly and the game will likely feel more responsive, but some glitches and tricks that rely on specific timings might not work the same. I would also imagine this would be more demanding performance wise, but I suppose we'll known for sure when Courage Reborn actually releases.

Definitely interested - for me one of the better Zeldas, if not the best. Have to wait for Wii version support though, as I do not have the GC version. Enough backlog to entertain me for the waiting period anyways.

If there's one thing that I would ask, it for a longer loading screen because at the start of any scean, the map loades in real time and maybe a second or two in a black screen, until everything is loaded, it would make it really stunning! after it load, everything runs perfect! it´s just the first one or two second of entering a new room or open field!

A generalized Port updater that checks github and can download/update them automatically would be a godsend. every two weeks or so i go through all githubs to check for updates, this would automate that and make it much simpler.

Check out N64 Recomp Launcher (it says n64 but you can put almost any Github project on it)

I this on the screenshots that this port has a mod to get the mirror mode from the wii version.
Is there also a mod to get the right handed link?

Not yet from what I’ve seen

I’ve only been checking (well scraping) gamebanana since that’s the only source I know of at this time

Link's model gets flipped when you go into Mirror Mode, so I assume it's just built in.

My boy is left handed, you heathen!

I feel represented in a piece of media and you want to censor it!
