Apparently this topic has not been researched and documented much to my findings (at least publicly) so I would like to work towards changing that!

Especially since so many other modded systems have custom theme makers/editors. So why not us?

If anyone has any information to share, and would like to help out. Feel free to chime in!

The ps5 theme can be edited by overwriting the vanilla files in /system_ex/ supposidly there is a chance of soft brick with this step, according to some ps4 steps but that same behavior has not been confirmed on ps5. This can be avoided if someone can assist in making a payload for redirecting this /system_ex/ folder somewhere else with symlink. That would then render this process completly safe since we will no longer be replacing or adding files to system critical paths

Now that I have a basic editor that can render all the fonts, images, and audio files in real time. The most annoying part is going to be figuring out what every single file is exactly (the file names are not great) so that I can label them properly in a user friendly GUI with categories and filters

Thanks Stoned for coming up with this

What exactly would you like to know?

The files must be in the exact same format as the originals. This applies to the DDS images (I use the Nvidia Photoshop plugin for this), the AT9 sounds (max bitrate 144, and the boot sound shouldn't be too long), and fonts in OTF format can be used.

For the icons, use CXMLDecompiler. However, the Sce.PlayStation.PUI_UI3.rco file needs to be adapted for each firmware version. This should all be automatable, though.

The easiest way is to look at the XML file and search for the icons using their IDs. The filename and, if necessary, the file extension can be changed. The file must then be present in the extracted original folder. The .txt images are SVG images and can be inserted as .png files in the correct size. See the first line in the .txt file.
