Sony appears to have raised refurbished PS5 Slim prices by $100 on PlayStation Direct

Earlier this year, Sony confirmed a broad round of PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal price increases, with the new prices taking effect on April 2. Now it looks like Sony’s refurbished lineup hasn’t escaped the hikes either.

As spotted in a Reddit thread and confirmed by navigating to PlayStation Direct itself, Sony has increased the price of its certified refurbished PS5 Slim models in the U.S. by $100. The refurbished PS5 Slim Digital Edition is now listed at $499, while the refurbished PS5 Slim with disc drive is now listed at $549 on PlayStation Direct.

What makes the change stand out even more is that Sony’s certified refurbished original PS5 is still listed at $399, meaning the older launch-era model is now a much cheaper entry point than either of the Slim refurb options.

That leaves things in a pretty strange spot. Refurbished consoles are usually where buyers go to save a bit of money, but with the Slim refurb models now sitting this high, some players may start wondering whether “certified refurbished” is even much of a deal anymore. This also comes just weeks after Sony’s latest price increase for new PS5 hardware.

Why do you need a jailbreak to enjoy a console? It's got plenty of good games you can buy

I wish the Switches were better for more than just gaming, for example, a USB/upnp media player or at least more streaming services such as Netflix or Plex, mainly for when I'm traveling as it means I wouldn't need to bring a Fire Stick with me.

Nothing in this universe could make me pay $90 for one game.

Secondly, as @SecureBoot so put it, being able to load my own stuff would dramatically improve its usability to me.

And what five exclusives are you referring to, if I may ask?

Without the jailbreak, my Switch 1 would have absolutely gathered dust. I'm only willing to keep repairing and keep my present switch going because of how much more usable it is jailbroken to me.

Even if I never ventured that avenue, all a Switch 2 would do for me at this time is just play my existing Switch 1 games at a higher resolution. Nothing *yet* for Switch 2 only has made me go "I want that." Emphasis on yet.

Yet again Nintendo and Steam do nothing and win

No longer a threat? lol ...
Pretty sure you missed the part where...about a year and a half ago?...Microsoft changed the Xbox slogan to "Everything is an Xbox." Unless they pivoted to any significant degree, that's still their slogan for the Xbox brand. And even if it isn't the slogan anymore, their console focus is still basically non-existent.

So the only thing Sony has to worry about at this point is whether or not the Steam Machine becomes a big enough thing to actually threaten PS5/PS6 console/game sales. (Given the Steam Deck's sales numbers - and the sales of handheld gaming PCs as a whole - compared to either the Switch OR Switch 2, I doubt that the Steam Machine will actually threaten anything.)

Healthy thinking, as certain game taught us in the PS1 times, "Don't pay more than 20 bucks for a game." or something among those lines. That feels even more true these days where many - if not most - games are like 2-3 hours of actual gameplay (at best) and 7-8 hours of "cutscenes", of course unskippable to trick people into thinking they have played a long game.

EDIT - As for the PS5 itself, I've got it some longer time ago at quite reasonable price and I'm sure happy that I did it back then. The current prices are just inacceptable, especially considering that consoles are now basically "DRM PC wannabie boxes" while Steam Deck is more true to the word "console" despite being basically a PC itself. It also costs less while offering in a sense more.

It might be the best time to pick up a PS4 console since those have been lately going down in price within the 2nd-hand market.
definitely and would be great to mod it as well

This got me interested to look at prices of refurbs from competitors

There are no refurb switch 2s for sale right now (makes sense, new console)

But the sub 200 switch lites are kind of an attractive gift option
yep and even some switch limited editions you can find a good deal on with games

All these price rises are making me look at my back catalogue and Indie games and I've found that I am enjoying gaming again. I'm not even interested in a PS6 at this point or new game release bar the odd exception (RE9 is on my Christmas list ). My switch to PC may become a full one in future and looking more into things like PS2 HD Textures is certainly helping :D

My point still stands: Microsoft was focusing less and less on the console side even before the "Everything is an Xbox" campaign, and even after ending that campaign, I doubt they're going to make any huge shifts to increase focus in the console space. And with Nintendo doing its own thing since the Wii, Sony's running virtually unopposed in the traditional home console market (again, I doubt the Steam Machine will change anything about that).

I'm not as much of an active Sony player as much as I used to be (honestly, the closest I've ever done was the Gradius collections and the Klonoa games), but it's quite saddening that Sony has been upping the prices for all of their systems. Even for the refurbished ones, this is starting to get insane. And to this day, people like to joke about the system "not having any games."

Does it still not have games to this day? I mean I did hear that they're going to be making games exclusive to their systems again (and the latest COD isn't going on PS4), but I want to know if there's some exclusives that've came off after people started saying the system had no games.

(Too lazy not to phonepost right now)
He got big mad over my thread about Sony's recent DRM fuckup and resorted to insults and even after Sony issued thier statement and i expressed skeptisism, he was upset that i didn't immediately admit that I was wrong and kept throwing more insults about how he was right and i wasn't, I kept telling him that just resorting to insults doesn't bring people to his side and even mocked his attitude to drive that home about it and he just kept flying off the handles, even more so with every laugh react I gave him.

And oh, I'm definitely shaking in my boots for the inevitable third dm about how he was right, i was wrong, and how I'm the one who's upset for laughing at him.:rofl2:
Exposed! I haven't laughed this hard in a while holy shit.

I saw the donkey Kong show last year and I was like oh it's the guy from the temp lol
