So I've been thinking of getting a handheld system within a limited budget, but not bad either.

So I'm thinking of either:

PSVita
A stronger handheld system

So what it's better to get?

I can get a PSVita for cheap. $120 in near perfect condition or somewhere around $80 in an adequate condition.
And it's official Sony and plays Sony games obviously aswell as homebrew to connect it to TV, some other plugins maybe. Also worth it and if there are even PSVita exclusive games?
And ofcourse RetroArch. I don't mind if it's up to GBA. it makes a perfect GBA!!! Does it support mGBA core? Which is accurate. Another goal is to take it with me to work.

Or:
One of those pesky handheld devices. But I hate the Android version of RetroArch and what can you even do else, because Android. And most are over $300...

Let me know.

P. S. If going for the Vita, should i get the original fat model or the slim model? I ever saw a picture of the slim model the colors being washed out, but still asking for your opinion.

fat model only really matters if you want the oled screen (or the 3g version) generally, one thing i have as a complaint for it is that the charger is way too easy to put upside down the clips hardly stop you from doing it

note: its usually easier to get an unpopulated 3g board and install a chip inside it then it is to take out the 3g chip in my experience those screws they put on it are diabolical

also note: fat uses a proprietary charger slim does not (just a usb micro), also another note: vita is completely region free, you can often get a japanese one cheaper

for connecting to tv your easiest way is using the usb uvc plugin which turns your vita into a uvc camera (pretty much compatible with anything)

also you can play psp games as well with adrenaline (even having the og psp menu if you want)

also if youre ever going for nintendo i highly recommend wiiu as it can officially play most nintendo consoles and unofficially play basically all of them for both handheld (upto ds) and home consoles upto itself

mgba on vita generally is fine but often has bad performance it runs alot better on something like a 3ds

Thank you. I'm going for a slim model then. Though I saw an USB-C mod listing... Not sure if that's safe since that mod messed with power internals...

I'm reading the homebrew hack guide of https://vita.hacks.guide/
And it says to update 3.74 at the start.

But at the Installing Enso part, it says 3.65. What do I have to do? Now I don't know if it will work on 3.74 since it said I need to update to 3.74??? Or am I stuck with HENKaku?

please make sure not to do this kind of stuff on tired brain energy

the intructions you read are if you want to do it manually (assuming you already had 3.65) skip the manual note and scroll through and follow the directions to do the downgrade

To be honest I still have to order. I'm preparing big time. I might just update to 3.74 if it will not be already on there and follow the entire guide. I had to watch a video to understand the 3.65 part.

Seems this section downgrades to 3.65 and installs enso.

Honestly, for your use case the Vita sounds like the safer pick. At that price it’s hard to beat, especially since it’s a well-built device with great controls and a solid library. There are some worthwhile exclusives too, even if the catalog isn’t huge. For emulation up to GBA it’s more than capable, and yes, mGBA works fine through RetroArch or standalone builds. Also way more convenient than dealing with Android quirks.

As for models, the fat one has the OLED screen which looks better, but the slim has better battery life and is lighter. If you care about visuals, go fat. If you want comfort and portability, go slim.

Edit nvm, I'm using filezilla now and Vitashell. But I'm very confused. I want to move some vpk stuff over. They're Crystal PS and emu4vita, but how do I transfer over, I'm very very confused, because I'm afraid of doing anything wrong. Since it's the slim, it has internal storage to move atleast the vpk files in, but where do I go???

Seems like you made your own mind up on which console to get though alot of your wants are retroid pocket territory. How many vita games you're actually interested in VS if you just like the form factor of the vita with lighter emulation. RP6 is still something to consider if you just like the form factor and can shell out a bit more. Way more power friendly than vita but again obviously if you're actually interested in the vita library it would make sense to go vita.

you can move the .vpk files anywhere
once you transfer them over anywhere you want then select them in vitashell to install

make sure youve enabled unsafe sources in your settings

https://vita.cfw.guide/ is a good guide and i feel like if you followed it you should already know how to do this as part of the installation process makes you use vitashell to install things (you can also do it over usb you dont need to do it over ftp unless you really want to)

but mayhaps instead you forgot how or didnt really process it while setting it up so https://vita.hacks.guide/installing-vitadeploy you can basically follow this same process but replacing the use of vitadeploy with whatever you wish to install

i found this specifically for installing stuff mayhaps it will help you it also lists different resources you can use as well such as a homebrew store that you can use on console without the need for a pc https://www.cfwaifu.com/vitashell/

Thanks for all the info. The PSVita was already Jailbroken!
The only problem is it doesn't charge beyond 56%. Think I still got about 2 hours playtime for maybe 1 hour and 30 minutes.

I have one problem though. I downloaded Ship of Harkinian Vita, dragged the ROM in the data folder like you're supposed to. But in crashes on boot with C2-12828-1.

What do I do next?

There is Battery Fixer, but be aware that some people had a less-than-ideal experience using it; black screen, charging issues and such. Proceed at your own risk.

Alternatively, you could ignore the charge issue and use it as normal, it's possible it will calibrate itself over time.

As for C2-12828-1, looking it up, it sounds like an FS issue. I find that the homebrew that mounts the SD card through an adaptor (YAMT) crashes occasionally, and restarting helped me every time, but I wasn't getting any error dialogues. Some report it's a more severe corruption issue, but I never ran into that error code myself, so I can't say much...

The battery fixer app was already on there so I tried it. Had to set date and time and now let's see what it does.

I'll try another cable too.

generally C2-12828-1 indicates your drive is corrupt (in most cases), i recommend replacing it

you can use this guide for formatting a new memory card https://www.cfwaifu.com/sd2vita/ then once you do that move what you have from ux0 to it

tho its much better if you uninstall whats currently on it since you dont know how bad it is and start from scratch just so you can make sure its done properly (i say this so you can make sure everything is setup on your memory card properly and its easier (at least for me) to do it from scratch then figure out what someone else has going on)

https://vita.hacks.guide/uninstalling-cfw.html <- here is a guide for that

Yes true. Also what strange is I only have the error on the N64 PC ports, or Vita ports rather.

The rest of homebrew and ROMs work.
