Pokemon Light Platinum gets its first English release, includes more than 20 hours of content up to the fifth gym

If you've been around the Pokemon ROM hacking scene for long enough, you've probably heard of Light Platinum. Releasing as a GBA hack all the way back in 2008, it threw two new regions, modern Pokemon, new tilesets, and more into Pokemon Ruby. It was a hugely ambitious hack for its time, and for many served as an introduction into the larger ROM hacking community. But that was 2008, why am I bringing it up now?

Pokemon Light Platinum is back, with a new demo having just been released for a DS reimagining of the classic hack. According to the changelog page, developer Mikelan98 has been working on this since 2015, with the game getting an overhaul back at the end of 2025 in the form of a Spanish-only release. The version released today features English dialogue, along with a handful of new features and adjustments.

The GBA Pokemon Rom Hack Space exploded ever since FRRE and Emerald Decomp was out. I think this year we will start seeing more DS Poke Rom hacks. I am looking forward to seeing what we see with custom 3D environments introduced in Gen 4
 
I thought this was always a English game? Feels like something I remember playing back in 2014-2015.
 
I remember back when this hack was still being developed in spanish (LP DS), it really has come a long way from it's gba counterpart
it was one of the few and maybe even only hack afaik with a completely custom HM, granted it was just a skin over surf but
still impressive nonetheless.
 
hey guys are there any cheats for this ds version and or do the heart gold cheats work with it please let me know as i want to play this and ive already downloaded and patched the heart gold rom to play on my 3ds with my r4gold which works ive already tested i just would like some cheats anyways thank you to the creator of this romhack for the hard work put into this
 
God, I love hacks outside of gen 3 & aren't just difficulty hacks. I know it'll probably be years from now, but gen when 6 & 7 (
) get more story hacks, I am absolutely going to play the shit out of them.
